Cleaning INSIDE of a stainless exhaust

Hi all,



Have had good results on a stainless exhaust with several polishes (Autosol, Megs NXT etc). However I've never done the insides of one.



I've noticed that some forum-goers have done so. I just have a question regarding the carbon buildup. I'm guessing you'd need to do something to remove the deposits before you apply a metal polish, right? Or would the metal polish break down the soot?



I'm just talking about doing about 15cm inside the tip, so it would look brand new on the inside..

Meg's NXT metal polish will remove some of the soot. It tends to dissolve the deposits. It also depends on how deep your fingers can go in. If you use an instrument to push the rag in, make sure you have a backup tool that can fish out the stuck rag from the exhaust. :) If you have a cannon, then forget what I said.
 
I use a buffing pads and jewelery rouge (like this one http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=TOOL&pid=00929807000 ) attached to my drill . It removed all the stains and discoloration

I use EO Nevr Dull to remove the bulk of soot inside pipe prior to polishing. Works great and the cost is low.

I do the same thing on my chrome tip, it works great. Though the Nevr-dull I use isn't the EO version; it's the "Original" stuff that I picked up at the local H-D shop. $2.50 for a tin of it that lasts me a couple years, I can't complain :grinno:



The other thing I've done prior to polishing on my chrome, is to use #0000 steel wool, and then polished using a sewn buffing wheel/pad on my dremel tool to polish it out with simichrome or NXT metal polish. (Very similar to what blkyukon posted that he uses on his drill, but much smaller to fit inside smaller tips/pipes)
 
Dremel with the extension attachment works great for me. Reaches in further than I can see.

Just use one of their own polishing wheels with some Megs metal polish.
 
NICE bike, DuMouixe... is that an FLHP Police/Interceptor? I can't tell for sure from that angle :o I usually only see the front of them around here, and usually there's a radar gun pointed at my head at the time....
 
The new Police/Resue bikes are definately purpose built.



I'd look at the FLHX with about $5k in accessories if I were looking.

Honestly I'm not much of an H-D guy if I were looking for a bike myself. They're cool bikes to look at and ride once in awhile, but I honestly prefer the Honda Shaddow Sabre my buddy has to the Sportster my other friend rides. Just a personal thing, I guess. Yours is definitely a nice bike, though. :cool:
