I`m sure this has been cussed and discussed time and again, but cannot find the discussion on the best way to clean fogged headlight lens. Have a 2002 Lexus LS430 with fogged headlight lens. Best (and easiest) way to clean them, please. Or a referral to that link.
Thanks,
HRP
I don`t know what`s best these days, but whatever you go with make sure the process includes something to replace the oe UV protection, which will get "cleaned off" along with all that oxidation that`s causing the fogging. People fail to do that and then wonder why the fix doesn`t last.
If they are very neglected and you need to be sanding them. Then 3M has a nice kit for a drill. And only need to be followed with a clear plastic sealant/coating protection. Easy to use with just a drill. They have a kit to do it by hand and a lot of elbow grease too.
The 3M kit works well. I reviewed it a few months ago along with Meguires Headlight Coating spray. The ones I did still look clear and it was pretty easy. Once they are sanded you will probably have to do it again yearly since the UV protection in gone. Check on eBay for the best price for the kit. I’ve seen it as low as $8.
I just buy my own 2k wet sandpaper then follow that with rubbing compound and polish. I bought a bunch of "headlight restoration kit" from wal mart on clearance and just use the UV protection from those. Just make sure you add UV protection at the end.
