Cleaning exhaust tips....

Looking for some advice as to the best way to clean the carbon/gunk that builds up on exhaust tips. I have a very nice Borla exhaust tip setup, with duals and resonator tips. The outside is nice and polished, but the insides are all black from the exhaust. Any quick tips would be greatly appreciated.

Use some heavy duty degreaser and then metal polish like the outside. Just stay on top of them and clean them every few days so the build-up never gets out of hand.

Thanks,

I think a combination of steel wool, hd degreaser and metal polish will do the trick....just another item to tick the wife off that I have to clean every few days.........lol.

#000 steel wool (can find it at Pep Boys), and Poorboys pro polish work wonders. Wear gloves because it's a messy job!

S100 Polishing Soap. I absolutly love this stuff. I detail bikes for a Harley dealer so I polish my fair share of chrome. It cut my details down by an hour. I used to hand polish everything with PP or Wenol if it was in bad shape. Now I polish the chrome when I wash it and just give it a quick wipe down with a QD to get an spotting off. It's NOT a restoration product so if it's really bad, steel wool might be the only choice.

just remember that there is only so many coats of chrome on those tips. Not saying that steel wool isn't good, but in moderation. I have seen good details go bad if you know what I mean.

I use 0000 steel wool and some metal polish. Depending on how grundgy they are will determine what grade of steel wool I will use but finish with 0000 grade.

i have polished stainless steel tips, and i use #00 Steel Wool, and mother's polish. Makes them look great. Next time i might try some 2000 grit sandpaper, some Tripoli compound, followed with White Rough. I've also heard good stuff about Never Dull.
