Cleaning clear plastic . . .

What should I be using to clean clear plastic on my car (Head light covers, and the internal instrument cluster cover)? Since it has no scratches, I want to keep it that way.

I ran a search but did not come up with the results that I was looking for. Any thoughts on this, are always appreciated. I shall have pictures up this weekend of the new car. I cannot wait.

I just got the 17" wheels put on last night. The car looks incredible. I am getting the windows tinted tomorrow morning. I even had a dream about my car the other night. Man, this might be a clinical psychology case, or something like that :) .

Best regards.

Here is a thread that discussed it. There is a product called Plexus that a lot of members suggest. Do a search on Plastic Protection or Plexus and I'm sure you'll come up with a lot of ideas. There is another product that has to be applied to the lens but I can't think of the name right now. I'm sure it will come to me in my sleep. Its like a film that you place on top of the headlights and it protects the glass or plastic. Dang...... I'll think of it.

EDIT: Xpel!! That is the product. Do a search on it. :D whew! I thought I was going to go nuts for a second there....

I have had good results with Meguiars plastic polish especially on the exterior headlight housing.

You can use there plastic cleaner beforehand as well but I haven't used it.

I bought the Meguiar's Plastic Cleaner and Polish & really like it. You don't really need the cleaner if your lenses are new, though. It is supposed to be for removing very light scratches.

The polish really makes the plastic lenses on my car gleam -- I'm using it on sunglasses (plastic lens cheapies) and other stuff in the house too - pretty handy and a little goes a long way.

Just don't ever use paper products on the plastic to clean it -- instant scratches!! :( I use a soft polishing cloth (kind of like a 100% cotton diaper) and that works well.

I've been using the Meguiar's Clear Plastic Detailer (in the burgundy spray bottle), for a number of years with good results. I mainly use it to spruce up the bug deflector on my SUV, but the product also works well on head light and tail light assemblies.

For the interior pieces (instrument panel, navigation system screen, etc.), I usually just use a soft cloth. The sueded microfiber cloths for optical glass work great here. This site's sponsor also offers a nice MF cloth which works well on interior pieces.

I prefer Plexus for the interior lens that covers the instrument cluster. I also like it for the headlights and tail light lenses (after they have been cleaned/dried) - it does a nice job in adding gloss to the lenses, but I would not expect it to remove scratching in the lens.
