Cleaned up my backside

By way of removing the huge gold bowtie on the trunk lid. It was easy, let the trunk sit in the sun until it was nice & hot, take a small, sharp plastic putty knife and "slice" between the bowtie and the trunk. Then a minute or two with the rotary & some Ult Compound and Ta Da - no signs it was ever there.

Well played, sir!

Another option for removing emblems is using dental floss -- that eliminates the risk of scratching anything, which is still a possibility with plastic putty knives.

I only had to "cut through" about 1/2 of the emblem, the rest peeled right off leaving no adhesive residue :)

Wasn`t too long after I got my 2012 I had read about removing the rear badge but heard that some had holes underneath the emblem on the back so I left mine on. What I did do was remove the Camaro letters from the fender on each side. I heated them up with a hair dryer and used fishing line to cut through the backing. Bad thing is it left some of the adhesive backing and that took a little work to get off. The fishing line I used was too light though, all I had was 6 pound test and should have had around 20 pound test. Line kept break while slicing though the letters. The adhesive backing I kept warm with the hair dryer and used my thumb to kind of roll it up and off the paint. Makes it nice for waxing, washing and detailing.

I really tried to avoid this thread......

At least I didn`t title it "Shaved my butt" (I thought about it though).

Over on Camaro5, there are threads about this. 10`s and most 11`s have the holes. I think depending on the build date of your car, you might not have the holes. If you really want it off, you could do a bit of research over there.

Thanks for the info on that. I haven`t been over on that forum in a couple years. Too much disrespect over there, I had to quit. I think you are right about those 2 years and not sure if mine, 2012, has the holes or not. I had decided a while back not to remove it. When I pick up groceries and such and load them in the trunk I use it for a handle when closing the lid so I am not grabbing onto a painted surface. I am surprised I haven`t pulled it off that way yet. After reading about removing the Camaro letters off the fenders I went and looked at the car and decided why not. Sure is nice not having to pick wax from the crevices in and between the lettering.

If it has the 2 sided tape backing does it still have holes? Maybe the ones with holes have an actual old school emblem with push pins on them? I would be interested to see GM put holes in a car then stuck an emblem on with 2 sided tape. I dont put it past them but it sure would be ODD.

Supposedly the holes were used to line up the emblem when it was being placed.

Hey, if GM can COMPLETEY de-badge a vehicle in their commercial for the new Malibu so no one knows who makes it, why can`t you?

Wouldn`t that be a nice factory option: vehicle badge delete AND dealer-logo/nameplate sticker(s) delete.
I`ll take a dealer license-plate frame with me, but don`t ask me to install it on my new or used vehicle I bought from you. My "customer-prep" charge for dealer logo sticker removal offsets their "dealer prep" charge. Either remove the dealer stickers OR the "dealer prep" charge. Try that during vehicle-purchasing "negotiations" with a dealer salesperson. Advertising is NOT FREE.

Germans can order their Mercedes/BMW/Audi badgeless from the factory, but only the model name/number. Makes sense in a country where few people buy what happens to be on the dealer lot.

I don`t remember if I got charged for dealer prep when I bought my car but one thing I can say is the dealer was nice enough not to put one of there decals on the car for advertising. I checked because if they had I was going to make them remove it. I had a set price in my head with my trade on before I even went to the dealer and it ended up costing me $700 more so I was going to make sure I wasn`t advertising for them.

I once took a car I owned to a dealer for service, and when I picked it up they had replaced the plain black license plate frame with one featuring the dealer name. I made them fish my old frame out of the trash and put it back on.

I`m a huge fan of debadging anyhow (sorta overdo it on some vehicles :o ), but combined with the blacked-out grille bowtie it looks just great IMO.

I removed the side lettering using dental floss and the rear bow tie as well. I ended up putting the Camaro letters on the backside though...
