claying with detail sprays

While most QDs contain somekind of gloss enhancing properties, what's the point in claying with these? Wouldn't this hinder the claying process, as your goal when claying isn't to enhance the shine of the surface? For that reason, wouldn't it be better to clay with soap & water, just water, or S&W?

Certainly a lot cheaper. I like the Optimum NRW with a tad of soap added, as I myself go through at least a gallon a week of clay lube. The goal is to have a high lubricant. Some say (some) soaps break down the clay, but I've never experienced this problem - mine always get filled up with rust contamination particles long before any breakdown occurs.

The point of claying is to remove contaminants that have boded to the finish. It's not meant to change the paint's surface, only expose what's there.

Clay glides on a film of lubricating fluid and should only "grab or grind" contaminants. QD's include ingredients that make them extra slippery so they make good lubricating films. Pure water doesn't lubricate well enough. Soapy water works well.

PC.

In the past I have had trouble with soaps making the bars go mushy and leaving bits in your fingers

A qd is fine as long as it's not one of those ultra quick drying ones, like those with lots of alcohol in them

I've had great success with quickshine, some mushing though long lasting film with sonus glyde, raindance is great, lasts ages though can make the bar fall to bits (small cut up bar)

The only time I have proplems with the clay sticking to my fingers is with the Clay Magic purple clay.
