Clay?

Hey all,

So i want to start detailing my own car. What is the best clay bar out there, even for a newbie like me? My paint feels like sandpaper (my paint is terrible!) so i guess i need a aggressive clay bar. My car is black btw, just incase yall needed to know that.

I'm a n00b as well. I went with Sonus SFX Ultra Fine Detailing Clay Bar. It's not very aggressive, but being a n00b I didn't want to risk an aggressive clay.

When I picked up my dream car (05 Carbon Black M3) back in October the dealer "did me a favor" and repainted the rear bumper. Ends up there was clear coat overspray over almost the entire car (I was uneducated about paint and finish then and didn't notice it).

Educated myself thanks to this forum and an entire bar of clay and lots of clay lube later, the finish is nice and smooth.

Make sure to do a search on the proper clay technique and you'll have a nice finish in no time.

Then comes the PC, polishes, sealants and waxes.....it becomes an obession.

Good luck!

you cant go wrong with sonus sfx clay, its very soft and fine and if it doesnt pick up some containiments the first couple of passes, then just spray some more lube and go over that section a couple more times

i recently tried mothers clay for the hell of it and it works quite well, very soft and since its yellow, you can see if its time to change to a new side.

regardless of which clay you get, just make sure you use plenty of lube, dont want to marr the hell out of your paint

=D
