Clay or Compound

They are two different things, clay is to remove the surface stuff and compound is for removing swrils or cutting the surface.

You can't really compare the two. As Beemer said, they are two completely different animals that ccomplish two seperate things.

cool.. thanks both.. I've never detailed a car myself. I'm looking into trying it instead of paying. Is there a kit you guys recommend? The handheld polisher does not need to be included, but I'll consider it at a reasonable price.

If you are going to do your own. I would clay the car after washing then use a swril remover and followup with a AIO like Klasse or Poorboys World polish with carnauba.

You can do all these by hand but work in small areas like 2x2 foot sections. You can get better control over the area. You can buy kits threw both Premium auto care that will give you everything that you need for the car and it will last you for quite some time.

Is this something you want to do and stay on top of, or is this something you are looking at for a one-time deal? It's kinda hard for me to suggest not trying to find a competent detailer if this is something you're not going to get into. I would hate to tell you to spend x-amount of money to buy some supplies and then you do the job and not like the way it turns out and never use the stuff again.

If you are interested in doing it yourself more than this one time, I would suggest reading the forum a little bit to see what products are most talked about with success.

I'm looking to getting into it. Now that summer is around the corner, I'll be detailing my car frequently.

I just took a few looks at your galleries. Where those your work? The trucks look outstanding.

Yeah, detailing is my "hobby." It's actucally quite peaceful and relaxing, odd as that may sound to someone. It's really enjoyable for me to spend half a day detailing my vehicle (or a friend's). Detailing is something good to get into. I'm sure you'll pick up a lot of tips and secrets here. I have learned a good deal at DC, and there's a ton of good info. It's also a good place to ask questions also.

Almost forgot..... :welcome to DC
