Christmas House Lights??

Most of my neighbors last weekend put Christmas lights on their houses. We are doing ours this weekend as I needed a extension ladder that I did not have.

However this last week I've noticed that some of my neighbors leave their lights on all night long. I've always been under the impression that these lights where not meant to burn for long periods of time. Maybe that's something that my parents told me. My thoughts are, I don't one want to waste the electricity, or leave them on for who? the paper guy or street sweeper.
Maybe I'm a bit paranoid about them shorting out and catching fire. I guess I just don't see the reason for leaving them on all night.

My family has always turned them off late at night. We have always paid a higher electricity bill for December as well. Do you want to play 2 times the normal amount for December? Or 3 or 4 times the normal amount? lol

I think that most of the lights are fine if they are left on for a long time though.
