chip repair fixing suggestion and question
Hello all, i have some minor chip repair to do, and plan to do them in about a week or so, yet being the perfectionist that i am, i want the job to near perfection(or a least as close to it as can be). I had in mind to g oto my autoparts dealer, who of course can sell and match paint to the paint color code on the inside of door. The paint im refering to is custom spray paint, matched to your paint color code................i would prep the chip surface by lightly sanding/and removing loose adjacent paint, then would thoroughly clean the chip so it has no grease/wax/dirt in it to provide proper bonding of the paint, then fill in the chip applying very thin coats up until it s slightly over the adjacent paint surface(using either a toothpick, or paper match cut at an angle)................so far that isnt that complicated, but the tricky part as i see it is the *levelling* part which has to be done either with by wet sanding(i do not like the sound of that, yet it might not be as scary as i think it is in real life), or removing or grinding the paint blob down to surrounding paint.
I wonder about the langka system.......does anyone know what is in the bottle ? is it merely paint thinner or something we many of us use, which now has been put in a bottle with a label on it ? I really wonder. This thread has for a goal to save brain racking and a little money...............im sure others have asked themselves and inquired about this before, yet using the serch button, i havent found exactly the above query, so here i am asking.
all i have noticed is posts about chip repairs revolve around this : blob, langka, wet sanding, compounding, chip filling methods etc...
im thinking that car paint in spray, matched to your color coding, would dry up much faster than touch up paint, and therefore make the job go much faster than with conventional touch-up paint, but i may be wrong here, im not at all trying to sound like a smart ***, but rather im trying to find a way to do these(chip and scratch repairs) with as much ease as perfection.
Let me know what has worked best for you so far, as some have prolly tried all mentioned methods.
Best to all.........i dont wantto sound like a brwon noser at all trust me, but this place is great !! discussion boards whatever the topic, are great tools, both for saving time and frustration.......my two cents
