A good friend of mine asked me to detail his engine bay. The truck had 185,000 miles on it and looked like the hood had never been opened!!!!

Process:

Covered Alternator/Electrical Parts with foil
Saturated Engine Bay with Gunk Foaming Engine Cleaner
Let soak 5 minutes
Scrubbed everything with a long-handled tire brush
Rinsed with a "trickle" of water
"Blow Dried" with a leaf blower
Sprayed everything with Stoner Trim Shine

Do I really need to label before and after?:drool5:

Hey there Bill,

Hey thats what my engine bay looks like(top photo) r u making fun of it?
It gives the truck some character, if you ask me.

The after photo looks great (great job) but no character!

Here's what my dad would have said:

"Don't make it run no better."

And he would have been right. :D 185K miles is pretty good proof. :D

I hate doing engine bays, including my own. Back "in the day" I would run my truck up to the car wash bay and hit it wide open with a couple of wash/rinse cycles and never worried about a thing. 24 years later the engine bay still was almost new looking and never had a hiccup. Now the Wife's VW is scared of the water, and the Volvo has given me a problem before.

Thats a great turn-around, Bill ! You are right, I dont think he ever opened the hood !
I just did something similar to a '97 Accord Sedan with 116k mile on it, never been washed much and certainly never detailed.

I used '409' instead of the Gunk stuff, and got similar results.

I still like to use my own 2gpm pressure washer, and just have to hold the wand farther away from the electronics, and I DO blow dry it like you do right after, and leave it open in the sun for as long as possible.

That engine and bay looks way good for another 185k now !!

I got a gallon of Autoglym Engine & Machine Cleaner a few years back and still have some, One heck of a cleaner.

I'm a huge fan of Meguiars Super Degeaser for motors. I haven't used anything that works better.

Each gallon of concentrate should be dilluted 10:1 for light duty and 4:1 for heavy duty. That means you get 5 to 11 gallons of amazing degreaser for 13.95, or $1.27 to $2.79 PER GALLON!

On out current sale that drops the price to 1.08 to 2.35 per gallon depending on strength. Not to mention that Megs super degreaser is the best polishing pad cleaner I have ever used.
