I've never owned a convertible, so I have no expierence with convertible tops. A friend with a new Z3 2.5 wants me to detail his car (cloth top). Is Gold Class shampoo ok to use to wash the convertible top, or do I need to be careful to avoid touching the cloth top with GC?

As said in the article, don't use Meguiars GC wash on the top. The GC contains oils which will be absorbed by the top and attract dust.

PS sweet Z3, if I were to have a 2 seater it would be a BMW M coupe in <span style='color: red'>red. Pictures of my 1:18 diecast BMW M coupe to come (1X AIO, 2X SG (with one week cure time, and one week dry time with each of the two coats), and 2x Souveran.)
 
I have a cloth top on my car as well. I have found the Porsche top shampoo to perform very well for this application. It does a very nice job cleaning, does not alter the color of the top or effect the threads.



It's a nice, mild cleaner. When washing the top, I use a completely separate bucket and a closed cell sponge. I have also found the absorber to be effective at pulling the water off of the top after washing. I do not allow it to "airdry" by itself with all of the rinse water on it, but rather dry it by hand. After the Absorber has removed 90% of the water, I finish up with a quality microfiber towel. Works great! :xyxthumbs
 
My chevy has front and rear wheel wells that have turned dull and grayish. Cleaning with wash soap doesn't help. What do you recommend for getting them black again??
Just got done with detainling my 2003 Suburban and it looks great after using the pc buffer and LC pads and mag 105 and 205 from your site. It sure beats hand polishing. Love this forum, keep up the good work.

If this is your DD, and you want to clean and dress your wheel wells, without breaking your back, try Armor All Tire Foam. Just spray it on and let it dry on it's own. The AA foam has some nice cleaning ability, and finishes it off with a nice look.
Can't get any easier or cheaper!!
 
There are many dressings out there that will work like others have stated. I have also removed the wheels and repainted the wells black with some high quality spray paint. This is another option for you as well.

If you do just make sure you tape off any paint and prep the plastic well with an alcohol wipe down. You dont want any oils dressings or grease to be on it that way the paint will adhere well.

Just wanting to give you all your options.
 
Your going to want something that can be sprayed in the wheelwells.

I would go with wither Meguiars All Season Dressing or Hyperdressing at 2:1.

For something OTC, any quality tire foam should do alright.

But it will only dress 10-15 wells and cost over $5.
