Chemical Guys?

Are they any good? Seems like they have a really wide range of products...

The one that caught my eye is the XXX Hard Core Pure White Carnauba paste wax... says it's 47% Brazilian #1 (90% white, 10% yellow)

The reason that stands out to me is, it's the same percentage (47%) and mixture (90% white, 10% yellow) as the Zymol Concours glaze...

But Zymol Concours = $175 per 8oz
CG XXX Hard Core = $18.95 per 8oz

What am i missing?

They are a good company. I've never used their waxes but I've definatly been intrigued by them as well. I love their air fresheners. Their new car scents are the only ones I've ever found to actually smell like new car. The stripper scent is good as well.

A Zymol sticker and lots of hype. :)

Seriously though, they have some good stuff and some not so good stuff (that I've tried). Their customer service will not be anything like you may be accustomed to with some other detailing vendors, so don't expect a whole lot in that area. If you want to buy bulk stuff, you can usually get pretty good deals from them and they have some things that are very comparable to what a lot of other people are selling - minus various small tweaks like smells, labels, etc.

I've heard they (CG) offer a private label program too. I've seen a lot of similar items advertised by other vendors.

Jorgen's Garage is one.

Talk about hype. They advertise a wax that will soak into the paint.

I have looked at their stuff for years, but for some reason never bought any...I want to try their "Grime Reaper" it's supposed to be a pretty strong degreaser

I certainly have not tried more than a few of their products but what I tried was pretty good.
I like the EZ Creme Glaze +++++
Some of their towels are better than some that are so highly hyped on detailing forums

Hmmm... definitely interested now.

Searched for other threads, and the wax stripping ability of the citrus shampoo sounds cool.

I think i'll try some out eventually. The weather here is putting a hold on any projects for now. But i definitely want to strip all the Mothers product off my car and see what something else can do to hide these cobwebs :)

How's the EZ Creme Glaze when it comes to hiding swirls/cobwebs?

Any glaze has a limited ability to hide swirls so it depends on how bad the defects are.

The goal should be to remove them unless they are very minor.

EZ Creme is easier to use than 4 of the popular ones that I have used it works good I use it on my show car.

If you place a order get a couple of the Sasquatch towels.

After you have tried those for removing QD you will not use anything else.

Speaking of stripping, I'm trying to decide if I should strip the Reflections wax and topcoat (going on 90 days since application) before winter and seal and wax or leave what's on there and just a coat or two of Collinite.

My car is new and 90 days old.

I bought some MF towels from Poorboy's and I have to say the quality for the price is tenfold what's available OTC.

If you want to hide minor defects (which there is nothing wrong with by the way) I highly suggest Prima Amigo and/or Banana Gloss. Amazing looks and masking ability on both of them.

It is XXX AND Hard Core? Do you need to be 18 years old to even buy the stuff? Too bad it's not also Xtreme, or I'd be all over it.

Yeah, the defects just bug me... it's all i see when i look at my car's finish... :inspector: Pretty uniform cobwebs over the majority of the car. I've been told now that it was probably my technique during application of either the Mothers Stage 1 Pre-wax Cleaner, or most likely, the Mothers Stage 2 Sealer & Glaze... Since i was unaware that it contained mild abrasives, i may have applied too much pressure... :wall

Anyway, as for the Prima Amigo and Banana Gloss... Is that combo good for hand application? I have no machine, and don't plan on buying one until... most likely after winter. maybe slightly sooner... but i'm not betting on it.

If you apply too much pressure either in applying or removing whatever product you are using irregardless of abrasives in paint cleaners or glazes, you can cause scratches.

With any product, I would focus on using clean foam applicators.

When using a pre-wax paint cleaner, it will get dirty if the paint has not been clayed or cleaned. It needs to be changed at intervals otherwise you will just be grinding the crud back into the paint. I often give the applicator of quick shot of Showtime detail spray to be sure there is minimal drag when it rubs against the paint the first time.

Try to apply thinly as possible and it should remove with little pressure with a clean microfiber towel. Again, switch towels if they get soiled.

If unsure, inspect your work to be sure your technique is right. You should have to wait until the end to discover you did something wrong.

I'd say (most likely) your cause of spiderwebbing is coming from the wash & dry phase.

Yes - Amigo and Banana Gloss can be used by hand. Very easy on and even easier off.

I washed and clayed the car prior to any work. I used fresh unused microfiber and foam applicator pads. I didn't spray with any Showtime tho...

I went thru plenty of microfiber towels during the process. But i neglected to check my progress until after the first layer of Sealer & Glaze. That's when i first noticed cobwebs. Another coat of S & G, and 2 coats of step 3 Pure Carnauba wax... and the cobwebs are still there.

i use the two bucket method when washing, and use either Meg Gold Class wash (my favorite so far) or California Gold (not "sudsy" enough IMHO)

Using meguiar's microfiber wash mits, and meg's microfiber drying towels.

Yeah, i think i'll definitely give the Prima combo a try... i'll most likely be stripping my current products and reapplying with something else within a month or so.

:thanks

You do realize when claying your car you are inducing fine scratches as well? I always machine polish with my cyclo after claying a vehicle.

Speaking of Prima, has anybody used their Epic product or Hydro speed wax?

I have been experimenting with Prima products this past summer.
Hydro is amazing its like OCW on steriods. Its the best spray wax or actually one of the best waxes I have tried. I just ordered another bottle and am actually considering getting a gallon.

I acutally really like Epic too. Excellent product.

As far as trying to hide minor defects Amigo and or banana gloss are great.

I have tried several combinations just to see.

Amigo/banana gloss
Amigo/banana gloss/Hydro
Amigo/epic
Amigo/Epic/Hydro
Amigo/Hydro
Amigo/OS/Hydro

All I can say is all fantastic products real easy to work with and exceptional wetness and gloss. really makes my metalic pop.
