Change to Zaino?

1) Buy the Autopia e-book

2) Visit Autopia-carcare.com

3) Search on this - there's a few threads about starting a detailing biz here

4) Zaino is an excellent, excellent product, but you're going to cut down on your "repeat" business, because no one will need a detail more than once/twice per year b/c the Zaino is so durable! :)

Welcome Aboard! Yeah, stick around and you'll learn a lot, too much probably. What kinda car/truck are you using Zaino on? Just curious....

I must confess, I love Z too! :D

:xyxthumbs

Don't get too committed to Zaino. We Kasse-ites will try to convert you at every step. :p Z is a great product but be sure to give Klasse and Blackfire a try too. There are a lot of topics started about it if you do a search. Tons of info... :xyxthumbs

Thanks for the kind welcome! I'll try to be open minded when using products. I must confess I've used quite a few, and Zaino is my god, but I'm willing to practice different faiths to see what feels best for each senario. Sal is a great guy too so that helps. His Customer Service locked me in right off the bat which was a plus. I'm not sure how he has the time to be in so many places at once and still answer e-mail and phone calls so quickly!

Thanks again for the welcome. And Metallic Mike - nice name. My name is Mike, and Metallic Blue is my favorite color!

I used to have an SVT Lightning, but sadly it was sold when I could no longer afford it. Medical bills were piling up. :(

Ford Lightning, huh? Man, too many people that have (or had) the same truck I'm after are on this board. I can't wait till I get a Lightning. Only 1 more year....

I had a beautiful black 1999 Lightning. I swear to god that vehicles paint was flawless when I owned her! She had about 100 coats of Zaino when I sold her! :)

I've been using Zaino for near 10 years and its been great. In the last 2 years I've noticed it hasn't been spreading as well as it used to, and its much more difficult to remove. I'm very experienced with Zaino and know I'm not using too much, but I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem. The Z-AIO is the only one I'm not having the problem with.

I used to be a big zaino fan but ever since products like blackfire wet diamond and menzerna powerlock have come to market I realized zaino was old news. It still is an excellent sealant performance wise but the application, curing etc. Just gets old after a while. With powerlock I can apply 2 coats inside of an hour, never any streaking and it leaves the finish far smoother than zaino.

I think if Sal updated his Z2 to be more user friendly and offer better looks on dark colors than it would be a serious contender with blackfire and powerlock.

Jeff, I had one bottle of Z5pro that needed the damp rag wipe down on darker colors. I opened a new bottle that has been sitting on my shelf for about 9-12 months. I did not have any issues at all on the red ZR-1 I just used it on.

Is this on Z2 and Z5?

I was also (and still am!) a big Zaino fan. I always loved it's durability and the slickness lasted for months despite weekly washings. However, I always found the process tedious. Still, I love putting it on my mother's garaged 95' E320 because, with proper washing, it truly is the "the once a year" polish.
I also have and love Blackfire WD and Powerlock (And Wolfgang DG sealant.:D), but I save those for my cars, since I have more time and motivation to work on my cars.

Jeff,

I've had almost the exact same experience and timeline (about 8 to 10 years of use). Like you, I like to think I'm extremely familiar with it's application but have noticed it takes MUCH longer to set up for the wipe off. I know I'm applying it per Zaino spec but have noticed this the past year.

I'm migrating over to BlackFire as soon as I use up all my Z!

Jeff ,

Also a Zaino user for 11 years, seen it all done it all, it was the bomb for a long time for me too.

How old is your Zaino ? It does have a shelf life, and then I dont know how good it is after that time. You can also go online to their website and sometimes chat directly with Sal Zaino; he would be glad to help you, as you already know.

Also have the Zaino products, but only now use Z16 for tires, AIO for sealed wood trim, and the Leather Cleaner and Conditioner bottles.

Guess I am pretty much done with it until someone requests it, etc.,

Dan F

I dont know Jeff, I dont use zaino regularily.

But I do have 1/2 bottle left of zaino2 ( is that the one your talking about?)thats several years old and still seems in good condition if you want to trade it for something ,let me know.

Then you could compare the 2?

This is the first I have heard of any problems, I wonder if you got a bad batch?

Its the same problem with numerous orders over the last 2 years, so I don't think its a bad batch.

Yeah BFWD is my go-to sealant now, but I really wish it had the durability of Zaino. Goes on so smooth and comes off just as easy, but Zaino has been a pain to remove.

Yeah its with both Z2pro and Z5pro. ZAIO seems fine though.

Yep sounds about right.

None of the bottles I have are over a year old. I think I'm done with it unless I get a request as well.

Thanks, but I may just use up the Zaino I have and not order any more, with the exception of the ZAIO, Z9/10, Z18.

These were actually all on clients cars where the surface was clayed and prepped properly. I haven't changed my zaino application steps in years, so I'm wondering if the products themselves changed?

I also have been using Zaino for years, especially on Black vehicles, especially Black Vettes/Vipers, and never really had a problem, yes it takes a little longer to set up, but I have found using a micro bonnet over a wool pad makes it easier to remove,After chatting with Sal, Also Note Temperature/Humidity plays a big factor in the set time also.

I actually have been very pleased lately using Meg. Synthetic Sealant 2.0 #21instead of Zaino, and is a dream to apply and wipe off, and the gloss depth/durability/availability over having to order Zaino makes me very satisfied, almost to the point that I would say amazed in how this product is so easy to work with.:D

Yeah I understand that. After nearly a decade of using Zaino I'm familiar how it responds to just about any temperature and humidity. This thread is the culmination of about 18 months of observation, using the product on a regular basis on many different paints in many different conditions. All across the board the stated issue presented itself and has caused concern. I do love the durability of Zaino, but maybe once it runs out, I'll just reach for the Collinite when someone wants that ~6mo durability. I have to say I feel let down by Zaino, and thats sad. It was the first REAL product I started using when I got my start.
