CCS pad flew apart?!?

Ok so maybe I was doing something wrong, but my white ccs pad just ripped in half and flew apart. I hadn't been using it long at all, only used it on the hood and fender. Right before it happened I noticed the pad was sunk in the middle. Not sure but I was polishing without much pressure, just the weight of the machine, could this have allowed it to spin too fast causing the pad to come apart. The velcrow was still stuck on the backing plate along with some of the pad, but most of it flew off across my shop. What could have caused this? I'm needing to order some more, but I think I'm going to go with the flat this time, which pads do you prefer?

Never had that happen to me, but consensus seems to say that the heat built up from the rotation of the machine causes that.

Maybe a bad quality pad?

Depending on the type of machine you like to use, you can go with either classic flats, constant pressure flats, or Hydro-techs.

They all have their merits, but try the Hydro-techs if you liked using the CCS pads.

I had an 6.5 ccs come apart after doing 2 cars and a boat but id imagine that might have just been the life of that pad.

But this one disturbs me. This was used to do the roof of a Porsche. That's it.

If those are the 4" LC low profile pads then I have had that happen to every one I have used... 3.5" backing plate is what they were on.

Just had this happen to to another 4" orange pad. Id imagine a smaller backing plate could help. Do they make them smaller than 3.5"?

Is that a 4" flat pad. Those things don't last for ****. Usually they start falling apart after a couple of hours. Just my opinion but if you are going to be using a smaller pad like a 4" you should invest in something a little thicker. LC makes great CCS pads that are much thicker and more durable. You can get away with putting more pressure on the polisher.

i bought those pads on special one time and ended using them for door jams and beneath the handles.

I could see that happening if you start it up on full speed with the pad pushed against the paint.

In essence the pad will be stuck to the paint while the machine starts spinning the velcro backing very fast and two don't spin equally tearing the part that's not spinning due to it being stuck on the surface.

That or the pad could be old and the foam degraded enough to where it's just falling apart.

I don't know.

wow that doesn't surprise me. I personally hate ccs pads. They tend to get beat up pretty bad and i've had some brand new pads that were not even round more like a oval so i couldn't use them . . . . i've also had a lc backing plate fly off my da like a Frisbee with a rocket attached to it.

once i switched out from lc pads it was like heaven.

My white CCS pad just came apart today... after doing HALF of my car. I was probably using too much pressure. Oh and I just took the pad out of the packaging.

I have some low profile CCS pads that are a few years old and work fine. The only ones I've had issues with are the CMA dual foam pads.

I am thinking about switching from my CCS collection. Out of the 7 pads I own of various sizes, 3 are unusable and one is almost there.

2 4" Orange where the edges have ripped.

1 5.5" White that is still usable however the velcro is starting to seperate and may become unusable after one more detail.

1 6.5" Orange where the velcro has separated from the foam pad in the center but the edges are still glued together.
