Car's interior smells "old"

My 17 year old Acura. I recently replaced the blower motor and cleaned the whole blower assembly out, and every panel in this car has been cleaned many times, a lot of them even on the backsides. Never smoked in. A lot of people compliment the smell of my car when I use it daily (They say it smells new, I think it just smells like 303), but if I let it sit for a couple days it gets a strong old-car-smell, a different/worse smell than the average closed-up-car smell. I don't see how it could possibly be mold, do you guys know what it could maybe be?

Have you checked under the carpet looking for any signs of water leaks? I know quite a few honda's and acura's get leaks from the bottom and sides of the front windshield. Also some Acuras have a leaky drain and let's water seep in. I'd suggest looking for signs of water stains and the such by the footwell area. Especially on the passsenger side.

i had this problem in an old accord while in college.

discovered it was a leaking heater core. not enough to leave a puddle of water, cause any damage or even cause the radiator reservoir to lower ; just enough to leave a few drops each time it was driven.

the mix of water/antifreeze gave the car the "old" smell I think you are experiencing.

might be something to check

My drains are all free of dirt and sludge. The car smells like most used Volvos do lol.

LMAO! That is actually quie descriptive. I had a similar problem wih my G20. I spilled a huge cup of coke and it seeped through the carpet. The syrup smell even though I "thought" was througoly cleaned and degreased of was still attached to the carpet underside padding. I ripped it out and installed new padding, smelled like a new car for about a year due to the adhesive.
