According to this article , due to the number of airbags and the materials used in modern cars, it's getting easier and easier for insurance companies to "total" a vehicle.
Thanks for posting that, it was interesting. I don't think it's right for insurance companies to charge a higher premium if your vehicle has HID headlights. I think you should get a discount, for the fact you will be able to see better during night driving!
I didn't read the article, but I believe why cars with HID headlights have higher rates because they have a good chance of getting stolen(at least where I live and if you have a 2000-02 Nissan Maxima). If you have a 2000-02 Maxima where I live, be prepared to have them stolen. Unfortunately its inevitable.
it's jsut a numbers game for insurance companies...the more claims of a certain car, the higher the premiums for everyone else. Same reason why Hondas are expensive to insure, they're not too fast, the drivers are usually more conservative, but they get stolen alot.
