Carpets: Brush pattern or natural?

I was checking out AutoNova's picts of that Intrigue and was thinking about the carpeting. I keep my Aurora nice and clean, but I never pattern the carpets. I have patterned them when I've done my wife's car.



I think I do it so she can tell they were cleaned. I can see how this would be good for pros too. But on my car, I don't want my floor to be all stripey and weird. I just want it to look spotless. I do brush them all in whichever direction is required to make it all look the same color/darkness, though.



So I figured, ehh, how about a poll? And "customers" can be paying or non-paying (i.e. spouses, family members, buddies, etc)

I like natural, but it does look good when you see carpet line, too. I normally prefer carpet lines on lighter colored carpet. I don't know why... :nixweiss

I agree with Shiny. I pattern my carpets just so everyone getting in my car knows that it is clean. My wife is usually a little more careful about getting in my car when the carpet "looks" clean.



To add a twist to this thread, for those of you that clean the house, do you try to leave a pattern in the carpet? I've noticed this also seems to affect the way people act until the pattern disappears.

Yup, I recall when you wrote that article. That was the first time I'd really given any thought to the presentation of the interior vs just having it be clean. :xyxthumbs



Good point on it being a signal to others. No one else is really in my car much except people who know I'm pretty obsessive about it.

Ive never liked the look of the patterns, but I understand why people do it. In my personal car, I brush it so it all looks even.

I have a couple of customers who like patterns, the rest don't care. Patterns look nice but they get messed up pretty quickly.

I've been wanting to ask this for the longest time, but haven't found the right thread (without starting my own);

How the heck do you guys get such straight brush patterns in the carpets? Mine look like a 4 year-old w/ADD on crack did them- well, almost.

Help!

Oh- and 1 more for patterned. Def. lets people know you put extra work in, and so to be careful.

Audio1der- you can use a piece of cardboard as a straight edge to guide your bruch or vac. to help get straighter lines.

I put the patterns in every detail that I do, but never on my own cars. Customers really like it, but I just like my own personal carpets to be cleaned.



It is the same way with high gloss tire dressing. I always ask if they want high gloss or low, 99% say high gloss. I prefer natural, but I apply what they like...
