Carpet Dyes

One of my front floor mats has visible wear in the center and its turning almost white. The original color is a charcoal almost black. Instead of buying new floor mats I thought about the posibility of dying it. I remember a while back browsing through Advanced Auto I saw a spray can for carpets. I found that PRO and SEM both have aerosol versions of carpet dye. Now my question is how well do they work? Will it leave the carpet hard and bristly(sp?). I dont care if its absolutely perfect as long as I can get the color looking good. I wouldnt mind just redying the entire floor mat black.

I believe its worth a shot...as if I dont like it I could always buy new mats, but if it looks good that saves money and keeps the OEM factory mats in my car.

Let me know your experiences with carpet dyes/aerosols..TIA.

I have used the SEM and it does work to a degree. I have used it for stain coverup, such as red or orange soft drink stains. This is almost always on grey or silver carpet and the outcome is better but not near perfect. If i may add a little more. These (pop)stains are permanent because they are an acid based dye. Just like the carpet color itself.

If you can find the right color for your mat, i would guess that it would be a good fix. It will wear off in time, but a simple respray would work again. Make sure you brush it in and it will not change the texture too much. The dark color should work better than a light color.

Let us know the outcome.
