Carpet Cleaning Procedure. Confused!

The more threads I read the more confused I get.... Hopefully here in about a month (if the weather permits, Alaska winters are LONG) I will be doing a full detail to my car 2005.5 Audi A4, and my brothers girlfriends car (2009 Audi A4). My brother just bought a 2010 Audi S4 so it will just need some light cleaning.

I have all weather mats. But this winter has been a bear. February ended up being a "fake-up" (where a ton of snow melts, like it would in break up, but then snows again), and I am sure after the real break up, my carpet is going to need some serious love.

Between my bro and I we have a shop-vac, a little green machine pro-heat, and various brushes. I am just confused on the actual procedure to take and what products to use.

This is what I have in my head right now.

Vacuum (shop-vac)

Brush

Vacuum (shop-vac)

Spray Folex to entire carpet

Brush (maybe using one of those PC carpet brushes)

Extract with LGM (with Zep or similar carpet product)

Extract excess water with shop-vac

Let dry

If I have missed the "definitive" thread, I apologizes in advance.

sounds perfect to me. Every carpet is different so procedure can change a lot which is why you hear so many different things, but for your standard "it's pretty dirty" carpet that is the go to method.

Only thing I would maybe suggest is to try just water first instead of Folex, or maybe diluted folex. If it is just dirt it should come clean without any chemicals just the same and then no need to worry about left over chemical. Try two test spots, one with water one with Folex.

IME some carpet pre-spot/stain treatment products work incredibly well. See what your local carpet-cleaner's supply store has to offer. You might also look into "rinse agents" which will get soap residue/etc. out a lot better than plain water.

Distilled white vinegar can work well on salt stains, especially when used hot.
