32k miles on this CTS.

Carmax at its best.

Client just got it a few weeks ago.

I gave it a quick QEW wash.

clay

2x prep-solv wipedown

3x straight IPA wipedown

The pictures do not do the level of hacking that took place on this poor car justice.

There is probably more truth to that then we could imagine.

The one person I heard who worked at a CarMax said their "detailers" are under alot of pressure to get cars in and out as quickly has possible so heavy filling glazes will always be used.

Had some sun so I added a sunshot to the first post.

Talk about a cash cow... make sure other detailers in the area don't get wind of this LOL... Damn that's a mess.

After sending him the pics, I called the client this am. He said just do whatever it takes, I want it right. Yes sir!!!

I'm surprised there are not spots that the clear isn't burned off, thats terrible.

PTG readings still show good readings in the 5s. I thought I would find some 3s for sure.

I dont understand why chop shops like that feel the need to use such aggressive products capable of inflicting damage like that.

If the shop is so worried about their bottom line that they are putting out work like that, they should just skip the detail all together. It would save them money and the car would look better than it does now.

That is where the heavy filler glaze comes in. Until it washes off, it appears that the paint is in good condition. A month or so after you own the car, after several washes or driving in the rain, the glaze wears off and the holograms start to appear. 95% of buyers will not know any better and assume they did the damage to the car by washing it.

Not the most honest way to do business but many dealerships do it.

Fillers are a lot easier than training your employees the proper techniques. I was never taught about keeping your buffer pad damp. It seems that the dry ones when you start out will do the most damage. Is that correct? I read an article somewhere that advised spraying a little of the quick detailer spray on the pad before you start. That and using a dirty pad will cause trouble as well.

The one dealership I worked for, you were as good as gold if you did it quickly and didn't leave any noticeable spots on the car. Don't think they cared too much if you left marks or not, although I'm sure the products they gave us would fill 'em in long enough to get the car sold. So, so sad. I guess that's where the pros come in...

It probably would have read somewhere in the 3s if you didn't swell the paint so much doing 8 solvent wipe downs. :chuckle:

sorry - I couldn't resist. :rofl

Wow, I have a friend that is a manager at CarMax and he told me that they are not buffing out vechiles any longer. I guess they have some type of RainX product that they spray on the cars that will cover the scratches. So he seze.
