Car Wash Myths and the selling of Green

Bunky

Detailing Gnosis
I see descriptions of some waterless products and I see claims like:

The Average Carwash Takes 30-50 minuets (sic) and waste 120-260 gallons of water.

When we were in the drought last year, there was a banning on car washing yet car washes (claiming they use recycled water) were allowed to operate.

It is amazing how much proponents of these waterless or anything to discourage personal washing make up statistics to sell green especially when trying to make some illegal so as to force people to use THEIR services.

My hose when left on continuously will put out just over 4 gallons per minute. This means I would have to leave the hose on continuously for 30 minutes to achieve the 120 gallon mark. I know I do not actually spray more than 5 to 7 minutes total added up.

Yeah, I 've seen some of those "facts" and have wondered how they came up with the #'s. Maybe they don't use a spray nozzle, just turn on the hose, wet the car, then leave the hose laying in the street, water still running full flow until they use it to rinse.

I'm also skeptical of the "5 minutes to wash your car" claims. I would be saddened by all the marring instilled going that fast, regardless of the method-waterless or traditional.

IMO waterless wash is not the only thing that is over hyped.
