Jean-Claude
Keeper of the beautiful
How important is our education in car care? For those of us who depend on detailing to pay bills and put the food on the table, incredibly important. How about for car enthusiasts? Just as important!
We know why our personal training and education in proper car care is important. We make a living with our craft and it's a reflection of our personalities and abilities. For the car enthusiast that has paid for paint correction, paint protection film clear bra installation or a paint coating system like CQuartz Finest, Modesta BC-05 or Opti-Coat Pro, it is just as important because that expensive detail should not have to be performed regularly. It should be a longterm value!
Over the last few years I have spent more hours than I can recall reviewing car care with clients after they've paid for us to make their car beautiful. Because we've spent so much time with them and provided guides(like the ones found here: http://detaileddesignsautospa.com/blog/ ) as well as ongoing support via email, text and phone conversations they've not had problems maintaining their automobiles and keeping them looking amazing. We get calls from them not during the ownership of the car we corrected, but rather, when they get a new car. All because they understand that with proper care, the money spent is a true investment.
Our process has produced car enthusiasts who are more qualified to maintain their cars than the majority of professional detailers in business. This hasn't been enough for us though! Over the last few months we've incorporated a truly unique approach to car care AND customer care. Clients that move forward with either paint correction or a coating service qualifies for a no-cost hands on detailing clinic at our shop. We believe that an educated automobile owner is the best kind! It's good for our industry and the pockets of our clients that they understand proper car care.
This clinic discusses proper washing and drying technique, wheel/tire/wheel well cleaning technique, tool options, chemical and product selection with an eye on thorough cleaning while being as gentle as possible for the surfaces being cleansed. We haven't just been showing folks how to maintain their beautiful ride. We get our hands dirty together and have a comprehensive approach to learning proper car care. The owners leave feeling refreshed and better prepared to maintain their beautiful car. In the near future we will be expanding the clinics so that they cover a broader range of topics. One-on-one as well as group training is available.
Moving forward, we will be making this program available to the general public. In the weeks to come, we will be scheduling out days that the general public can participate in our detailing clinics. Existing clients will still be able to take advantage of the no-cost approach by allowing Detailed Designs Auto Spa to restore and/or protect their valuable automobiles. It is our goal that in the years to come, Detailed Designs Auto Spa will be a hub for healthy car care education in Atlanta and the whole southeast.
Here are some pictures from a recent clinic:
Shane dearly loves his "new" Stingray convertible. So much so that he brought it to us for silver paint correction, CQuartz Finest, clear bra installation and a bunch more. But he wanted to learn how to care for his newly acquired automobile properly.
Due to scheduling limitations on his behalf, it took 3 months to come back to the shop for his hands-on clinic. After 3 months and limiting the cleaning he was doing, his car still looked phenomenal and was a breeze to clean up!
After 3 months of very little cleaning...

We start by showing how it's done.

Once we've reviewed the proper process, we move forward with the client's hands-on training.

We review a large selection of products, tools and processes available to get the desired results.

Critiquing is necessary for the client. Poor habits that have been drilled into their routing by years of use must be unlearned.

After some hands-on time, the client gets to have a go by himself and prove what he's learned. This gives me the opportunity to get an idea of what teaching methods are working best for the client.

We move it inside and begin with the paint and convertible top care.

We stay close and make corrections to techniques used along the way.

Using different mitts for the lower portions of the car. New to most of us here? Not likely. New to a proud owner of a fine automobile? Absolutely!

We show how proper care is done...

...and then we let the owner strut his stuff!

Shane understood how to use Reload on the CQuartz Finest. So we wrapped up by "reloading" the CQuartz Finest together.

3,000 miles of minimal car care and still looks absolutely awesome! Here's hoping that Shane holds true to his education for years to come and it stays one of the best looking Stingrays around!
