Car covers for daily drivers

Similar to the "california duster" question, I sometimes have customers aske me about using car covers to maintain the near perfect finish I just created on their vehicle. So I'm seeking feedback from Autopians - only used a car cover on one of my vehicles in the past, and it was white so it was hard to see if it was marring the paint.

My guess is that car covers are a valuable tool to keeping a non-garaged vehicle clean longer. But when used on a dirty car, they can marr the paint, especially if it is windy out (though it is almost never windy here in San Diego). So maybe I could tell customers that they can use a car cover for the first 2 or 3 days after washing the vehicle, but then as it gets more dirty to leave it uncovered until the next washing???

I don't recommend car covers unless you are storing the car for a long time, like people that store their cars in the winter. the average Joe will probablt marr their finish just trying to get it on the car. Plusn there are tons of different car covers out there and they would have to make sure to get the right one for their application.

Agreed. A good car cover is a substantial investment. And putting it on a vehicle when it's even a little bit dirty, poses a threat of marring.

I personally use a weathershield HD every night seeing as my car gets to sleep outside. I only put it on after a complete QDing though. Most of the customers that detailers get won't buy a high quality cover and/or make sure that all the dirt is off the car before they put it on (let alone they probably wont put it on correctly). I wouldn't recommend it to customers.
