Car and Driver does it again!

I'm in shock at this month's C&D.

After all the commotion caused by their ridiculous detailing article a few months ago, I'd been patiently waiting for a retraction, apology, or the like. I know they caught absolute hell over it online, and there had to be more than a few detailers write in and slam that idiotic article. So imagine my surprise when I see only one letter in this month's issue regarding the previous article and it's a question with another sketchy answer by the author.

This time he's recommending applying touchup paint after waxing to save time, claiming it MIGHT affect bonding but he's never had an issue. I'm really starting to lose all respect for Car and Driver as a publication if they can't address the outcry from the first article and instead let that hackster spew more bad advice.

Ok, I feel a little better now. Rant over.

Can we view this online anywhere? I think we need to launch a major counter-offensive against C&D, throw our weight around a bit and force them to address the BS they're publishing.

There is absolutely no excuse for that level of editorial misconduct in this day and age when proper information and real experts are only a few mere clicks of a mouse away.

If a publication posted mis-information like that about a person they would be sued for Libel or Defamation. Of course the guy has never had an issue, because he's never done any form of detailing.

I don't think it's available online yet. I saw the letter and reply in their feedback section at the beginning of the mag. I still can't get over how they are turning a blind eye to the responses they received from the article. It's not the end of the world to print a retraction or correction, and it's just irresponsible to leave that bad info out there just to save face.

Is this the same article I read that stated something to the effect of polishes are heating up the paint to liquify it enough to fill in swirls instead of pointing out that the abrasives in polish are what are removing the swirls by removing the clear?

That's the one before...

I just read that question and response this morning. I was expecting a retraction but instead got... well, you know!

At least all of the comments are calling the article BS. I see lots of people saying "I learned more from the replies than what the original author posted"

I saw that. They just ignored all the responses about how wrong their advice was and pile on with more.

Maybe they're intentionally on a crusade against the car care industry? Or at least the professionals who are a part of it?

If I were running Meguiars/Mothers/Griot's/etc. I'd stop advertising in C&D just to send a message. I'm willing to bet if somebody like Mike Pennington were to call them and say "you're recommending potentially dangerous techniques/usage of our products, and we're not going to support it" they'd sit up and listen.

Maybe we need to contact Mike and see if he is willing to do so? Or at least request an opportunity to set the record straight?

"....use a sander....".:rolleyes1: I know the pc IS also marketed as a sander but c'mon, a little research into what you're writing about is probably a good idea. Learn the terminology. Another crappy, misinformed article about our trade. Shocked me that they did mention microfiber.

C&D sold out years ago. I wouldn't trust them to review a water hose. They have gone the way of the dollar a gallon gas.
