How can I get rid of this oilly haze. It's a multi color haze. After waxing and trying a paint restorer I still have a light oilly haze if I look really close and certain angles. I think it is from a rust spot that was repaired but the rust runoff got into the surrounding paint.

i am confused....an oily haze as in you can smear it around? If so washt he car then use Meguiar's Final Inspection detailer and I am sure it will be gone.

No I doesn't move around very easily and I have washed it many times trying to get it off but it's always there, I think it got moved around slightly when it gets buffed but not very much, I don't think it is oil it just looks like the colors of the rainbow when you look at it in certain angles that's why I said oily haze.

Dawn Dish Soap ? No I haven't tried that, I tried polishing it out , so have I know locked it in and have to remove the wax somehow and get right to the paint layer ?

Canada97TJ is describing the appearance, I don't think there's actually any oil-like substance on the surface (it doesn't feel oily, right?). Not sure if clay would work since you don't want to use too much pressure when claying. You may want to try a cleaner (DACP, #9 maybe) with a PC if you have one. Do you have a pic that shows the problem area?

hmmm, does the haze have a pattern to it?

What products (names please) have you used on it already?

How big is the affected area?

When did this first appear?

There is no oil residue just looks like an oily haze when looked at, at certain angles.

The affected area is about a quarter of the hood. After I waxed it on the weekend is when I first noticed it, probably been there for a while just never noticed it, was easier to see after it was waxed

And the products I have been using

Diamond Coat Gold Paint restorer

Simonize car wax

After reading some of the other threads I now realize that there is a lot more to it then just applying wax. Any feedback would be great I won't take it personal because I know I have a lot to learn. Thanks for all the help.

Yeesh.... it doesn't help that I'm not sure exactly what this Diamond Kote product is. Is it something called Diamond Kote Speed Glaze? That's the only product that I could find reference to. It sounds like a wax/protection product of some kind that corrects problems (ie, a cleaner wax)?

If that's the case you may want to try something mildly abrasive like one of the popular swirl removers (3M SMR, Meguiar's #9) or just some over-the-counter pre-wax cleaner. I imagine that should rub out anything lying on the surface as long as the problem isn't with the paint itself. "Oily hazes" usually come from some product having a bad reaction or improper use in some way. Follow the product directions (be sure to work it in thoroughly with a bit of pressure) and re-protect the area with wax afterwards.

Yes, there is a HUGE amount beyond just waxing :), but even if you go no further than simple washing and waxing of your vehicle you're still taking relatively good care of it. Even better if you're using some of the methods and safe materials we talk about here. Not all of those lengthy, multi-step prep phases you read about absolutely need to be done with every car. It's a car by car prescription that depends on its condition usually.
