Can't Catch Him...LOL

Just One More Coat
Over Christmas there was a seal at SF fisherman wharf that had some fishing line around his neck and was lying on a harbor deck, while quite a few people looked on. It made the local news and from what I could see the seal looked doomed. Everyone was up in arms about why there wasn't anyone coming to help this seal, seeing how it was late at night they decided to wait until the AM

Next day the seal was gone.

Turns up 100 miles south at another harbor with a bunch of his buddies, failed attempts to catch him there and today with numerous more failed attempts and almost a week and half later they still haven't been able to catch him:huh::huh:

I just love the media and the drama that comes from it:rofl:rofl

He (the seal) very well may be doomed if the fishing line isn't removed. Fishing line (for the unfamiliar) is pretty strong and abrasive stuff. Unfortunately there are a number of worthless lazy fishermen (who probably claim to be real sportsmen) who can't pick up after themselves. Nothing peeves me more than to be enjoying fishing while standing amid someone elses trash. I normally bring back pockets full of debris left on the banks by people who don't care and are just plain lazy :wall

The same goes for hunters who don't pick up their spent shells. These are all probably the same group of people who can't be bothered to walk an extra 20 feet to return their shopping baskets to the designated "corrals".

I'm not trying to reduce or ignore the danger that surrounds the seal, and I agree about how some just can't pickup after themselves. Its the fact that they can't catch him, while everyone was thinking he was a goner and many days later he is still in the news...LOL

It is my understanding that incidents like this are rarely resolved quickly. Unfortunately some of the wildlife end up dying of starvation because they can't hunt or eat or both. Not saying that this is the case here, but it certainly happens and probably more often than it is reported. The plastic holders for six packs of aluminum cans can present a similar problem. We don't get too many but when I dispose of them, I cut them up so that if they do wind up where they don't belong they won't present a hazard.

People purposely dumping their fishing line in the lake or river is a real big pet peeve of mine. Not only is it trashy and potentially harmful to the wildlife, but it can wreak havoc on a $15K+ outboard motor. :(

And in the case of hunters not picking up their spent hulls, it can and has prompted a once friendly landowner to decide not to allow you to hunt on his property anymore.
