Can zaino not work that well in lower temperature ?

Applied 3 coats of Z2 to my metallic black car yesterday, of course it added some luster to the paint finish, yet i expected way more, as my girlfriend's red ride came out a tad better than my mine, which i find curious................i used ZFX(4 drops) in an ounce of Z2.....same recepy as with girlfriend's, i was in the garage and the heater was on, i didnt notice how cool it was, but the Zaino(z2) cured quite rapidly all the same, but the shine is just not what i expected, so i wonder if the cooler temperature might affect the look of zaino(i mean reflectivity) ?

I did apply z6 in between coast of z2, but after the last coat of z2 i didnt layer z6 ............could it explain why it has les reflectivity ?....also i have S100 and might give it a go on top of Z.

Can the S100 be used at temperature 10 celsius without any problem ?

Best regards all :wavey

BTW 10 Celcius is 50 F +/- for the non-Canuckbians.

I did my first attempt at Zaino ( 3 coats ) on a cool day .. results were "ok" a week later I did 3 at 80 F ( 26 C) and I don't know if imagination came into it but it seemed a lot better. Maybe even tho it seemed to cure it didn't cure as well in the cooler temps and one coat was lifting part of the last? Maybe humidity?

all i can say is my car has nothing that sets it out of the other clean cars i bump into :( and i do want the edge over most other clean ride :D ;) .........just thought of this : i'll send an email to Sal Zaino down in CA, and i'll let you know about it later on today ....later !

Did you clay first?

The lack of z-6 betweeen coats will make a difference.

I think the temp will make a difference, I did my last coats in about 65 degree temps, but I kept the truck in the sun while applying, that way the temp of the metal was higher. Approx what was the temp while working?

about 50-60 F and you bet i clayed twice before lol ;) ....in fact i clayed twice and polished with 3m's 5937 with a rotary + polishing pad......but minutes ago i was outside and applied a mist of z6 and i must say it makes a difference......what s more i asked Sal Zaino about it and here's his reply ( first my letter than his comments, short and sweet but i think he s got a point there, metallic prolly has less gloss than solid black)

Hi Sal, yesterday i did 3 coat of Z2 with Z6 in between, temp was about 50 F....i should mention that my car is metalic black, and i don't know why but the effect of zaino on it isnt the same at all as my girlfriend's red car.....mind you i applied Z to my girlfriend's when temp was warmer......could it affects the curing of the Z2 ? I used ZFX (4 drops/ounce), and ran the finger test on it and it didnt streak, so i proceeded wiping it off, BUT after the last coat of Z2 i didnt finish it off with Z6 as i didnt plan to apply another caot of Z2.......please let me know if you have any idea why the effect is not striking as in my girlfriend's ride(her car really stands out) and not mine, although mine is metallic black...........could it be that solid black has more gloss than metallic ??

Yes, definetely,

Also differnet paints look different... Try a few more coats...

Chip, I've applied Zaino at temperatures close to yours. Didn't make a difference. What always does make a difference for me is finishing-off with the Z6 application -- always seems to add the final "bling-bling."

Hey Lynn, long time no talk(although it's always a pleasure to talk to a lady;) ). I must admit that yesterday i applied a mist of Z6 to the car and i completely agree with you it gives the final bling bling as you say :)

Lynn, have you ever tried Meg's final detail ? I hear it gives a paint finish a real pleasant gloss, although it's not body shop safe(i've been told that).........prolly has some silicone in it. As for me, i'll prolly top my 3-4 coats of zaino with S100 today or tomorrow, as my car is metallic black and it doesn't seem to be as easy to as shine up as solid black for instance, yet i think the S100 will take care of that.

So to wrap it up, keep in mind i'm looking for the ultimate shine and depth, just in case you would be so kind as to share what's in your bag of tricks lol :lol ;) .

So until then, take care and remember your comments are always welcome :)

Are you concerned with the silicone because your getting your car painted ( Body shop safe?)

no not really, well in fact the hood + fenders got painted about two weeks ago, but the bodyshop where i go always decontaminate before painting, so it's not a real concern. One thing is for sure, silicone sure give a car a very nice and slick look.

I guess i shouldnt worry about silicone.....not that i am to extreme, but i've heard different opinions about it.....some say it is a contaminant, others told me it protects paint cause it actually goes down the paint finish(exactly why decontaminating is a very important step prior to painting)........but as i told the guy who did my car : scarce must be cars that have never had any silicone on them, cause even the cheapest wax contain some most of the time, to add luster.

take care

I steer clear of Final Detail because of the concern that silicones will degrade my Zaino finish. But I recently got my hands on Meg's Final Inspection (free of carnaubas or silicone), and am currently impressed with it. Can't say it equals the "bling" effect of Z6 on a Zaino'd car, but am pretty impressed with it on the cars that are Klassed or S100'd. Just my $.02.

I really like the results of s100 over top my z2.

or after a quick wash, s100 Q&D ..

I find the oils in the s100 make it shine better than the z6

you should try applying few z5 before z2. I use a few coats of z5 before z2. z5 gives my black paint a deeper look and z2 gives the gloss.

Where did these concerns come from? I don't remember seeing anything on the Zaino site indicating this.
