Can S100 be layered

I have 10 coats of S100 on my Cobra, while it looks great, I would not say it is stunning. Have I been wasting alot of time by putting on multiple coats? Any input or product recommendations will be appreciated...

technically, yes, it can be layerd, but in reality all gains after the 2nd or 3rd coat are too minimal to justify.

You have to consider with even paste waxes, you're removing some of the existing coat. This isn't what makes the returns so diminishing after the 3rd coat though.

What really happens is it looks stunning the first time, lets say, 10. You're expecting a 10 times as good the second time, but you're really going to get 5 times as good. And after that, maybe 2.5 times as good, and then 1.25. and then .625. And it keeps going. And eventually, there's no point in putting on more because your stash of vanilla moose is saying "I want your Cobra, gimme somea somea that lovin" and that's what happens.

Nice looking car, BTW!

My experience is that anything after 2 layers is overkill. Two layers can look awesome however.

Surface preparation is key. GEPC works best of course. And the odd claying...

Thanks for the reply's... I most likely am to critical for my own sanity. What can I say ... I love clean cars.

A little zaino action...

Well, your Cobra looks stunning to me; my question would be: Does it look any different now (with 10 coats) than it did with one (or possibly two)? I think you've probably been wasting both time and money. The car sure looks nice in that pic, though!

~ One man’s opinion / observations ~

By applying another product on top of one that has already cross-linked you can increase its density (up to a point) the thin film of product that's applied isn't really another layer.

One thing that will negate ‘layering’ or applied product density is lack of clarity, the base coat (that contains the vehicle’s colour) is covered / protected by a clear coat of urethane resin, which as well as providing protection is clear to enable the paint colour to show through and provide the colour with a depth. The product applied on top of the clear coat needs to be transparent otherwise both the paint colour and its depth of shine will be muted

The carrier system allows the polymers to fill and level the paint film surface to produce an ultra-flat surface. This level surface improves the paint film surface's desired optical properties (i.e. surface reflectance, clarity, gloss, and depth of shine) two to four cross-linked (cured) applications are usually considered optimum

Solvents provides a lubricant and aids the adherence process by working their way into the microscopic gaps and valleys of the previous `layer' softening it, providing each subsequent application carrying agents (solvent, oils silicones or emulsion) are not strong enough or so highly concentrated that they liquefy or remove (as in the case of a cleaner wax) what has been previously applied.

Also be aware that the both the product and the foam pad may be non-abrasive, but application pressure if not kept to an absolute minimum and using use a very light and even pressure, may re-introduce surface marring and/or removal of the previously applied product.

~Hope this helps~

I would try something else on that Cobra besides S100. How about some EX or EX-P? Vanilla Moose and top with Souveran or CMW?

As my post count would indicate I am new around here. I have seen some product advise given(in this forum) based on the car's color. What do you guy's think would suit my situation(car is green, blue, purple, and black) that being said, the car in my opinion would fall into the darker rather than lighter side of the spectrum. I appreciate all who have replied, and I look forward to hearing what you all think.

Either Poorboys EX-P

Wolfgang

or Souveran would be great on that finish

actually i would like ex-p, or Wolfgang THEN

top with either S100, or Souveran!

I really like megs #81 hand polish topped with S100 but honestly I don't think your going to get it to look significantly better then it looks right now.

If you do anything I would suggest that you do it because you want to rather then in a quest for perfection. Otherwise your just going to get frustrated.

RB88,

your car looks great...Wild color scheme:D

Don't know why you would want to change what you using.

If you want to try something else

Poorboy's EX W/Carnuba

Topped w/ Either Natty's, S100 or Souveran
