Can interior dust be prevented?

I have Natural Look on my interior now, and after I clean the interior I always get dust like 2 days later. I almost always drive with the windows up, and the carpets and what not are clean as well. Is there something I can do to help prevent the dust from coming back? Are there any other dressings that help prevent dust from finding the dashboard? Thanks.

Dust particles are usually composed of dead skin cells. Unless you wrap yourself in plastic wrap every time you drive the car, it's unlikely that you'll ever be free from dust.

Even though that is a very well known fact, it still gives me the chills. Yuck.

Something you can do is to always make sure you buff the excess interior dressing off after it has time to dry. This will take the *tackiness* away, but that's about it.

You're fighting a losing battle unfortunately. I have an all black interior and I see the dust even the day after I detail my interior. It's just part of owning a car unfortunately :)

I just keep a small MF in a Ziploc Bag in my center console. I spend enough time waiting in line @ drive thrus, traffic, etc., that at least once a day I can do a quick wipe down. I can reach almost everywhere in my car w/o moving (but seatbelt off/ in park) to do a decent job in about 90 seconds.

IF your car/truck has a cabin air filter replace it more often...and get a charcoal filter one...as it helps remove the smelly stuff too

I wonder if keeping the engine compartment as dust free as possible could also help minimize the dust that eventually finds its way to the cockpit. It's once in a blue mean where I have to really send some time with a mf or dash CCD to fight off dust :nixweiss

I think dust also comes from clothes (although there are laws against driving naked in public), as well as interior fabrics. The friction against the fabric created by getting in and out of cars and by the act of driving probably generates a bit of dust, especially as the car grows older and the fibers get weaker. The swiffer or MF idea is a good one, as is those little electrostatically-charged duster-thingies they sell in the 99-cent stores.

Once the dressing is cured, a quick wipe with a very slightly damp MF towel should help a lot.

The only times I have noticed a big problem with dust is when I have not successfully buffed the excess dressing

I use 303 on my dash and interior. Pinnacle cleaner/conditioner on the leather. After a fresh interior job, the dust stays down for a week or so. I don't know if it's a psychological thing, but after 303, it seems to repel dust pretty well. Like others said, buffing it out is key.

I keep a MF towel in my center console and wipe down the interior every few days. Sometimes at long stop lights or parking, I'll do a quick wipe down. It's a regular habit now.

As far as the dead skin thing...I guess Autopians are going to start claying themselves. :p

Thanks for the replies. The dust is nothing terrible, and I doubt anyone else in the car would really notice except me. It usually happens quicker after I wipe the interior down with a damp microfiber. Bill did bring up a good point though about the engine compartment. I guess I'll just keep a microfiber in the glove box from now on.
