Can engine degreasers remove lubrication?

You could try a good Auto Paint Supply store - I was able to find them at a few autobody stores in the Madison, WI area on a regular basis.

PS: Some of the better/bigger NAPA's also have this stuff.

Ya I think that my napa had them........ also will the griots pads fit the CMA backing plate>?

:sosad I haven't found any local source of velcro-backed 6" or 5" pads. :sosad

griot pads will fit the backing plate - but if you haven't ordered them yet get the northern mfg pads that are part of the "porter cable accessory kit" or something like that, here.

Automotive -> Paint and body shop suppliers.

Or something like that, you will see PPG PLATINUM distributors somewhere, go to that shop. They will have the Meguiar's pads.

I agree completely - I have about 10 of the Griot's pads and they stink compared to the Northern pads.

I washed my BMW 325i's engine bay a few times over the last couple of years. and I noticed one of my pulley's is squealing. Maybe it's just wear and tear but do you think some of the degreaser could have made it's way into the bearings and taken away the lubrication? The car only has 34000 miles but it is 6 years old. I'm always careful not to spray degreaser where it shouldn't go and I only blast water on solid surfaces.

Be delicate around your tensioner pulley. I have seen on one ocassion where the APC has somehow jacked up the bearings

You may also have glazed your belt. At 40k, its about time to replace it anyway, so start there

Pulleys have sealed bearings. Over time they will lose some of their lubrication though it is rare for seepage while applying degreaser. I have washed a good number of my personal fleet and have not experienced a problem. I will cover the alternator and any other suspect component.
