Can anyone spare a small bit of Kamikaze ISM?

If anyone has some Kamikaze ISM leftover from an application, I`d be willing to pay for it and pay for shipping.

I managed to screw up my first run in with coatings doing a Miyabe/ISM install on my PPF covered car. When I first applied the coatings, thought everything looked fine but noticed some high spots the next day. Figured that meant too much product so I tried to remove some using Meguiars APC 1:10. It seemed to remove it, but more spots and smudges popped up later. Contacted esoteric and they said APC shouldn`t do anything to it and I needed to lightly polish those areas and reapply. Worked with several friends to do the whole car and it looked good in the end. The next day, however, smudges still managed to appear. Decided to just let it be and wait to see if it`ll go away as it cures.

A week later and the smudges were still there. Can only see it in certain light, so good 90% of the time but it still annoyed me. Being that it had cured, I figured it had hardened and it`d be fine as along as I didn`t polish it away. So using the APC again I lightly rubbed some smudged areas and successfully removed them. There was a stubborn spot that wouldn`t go and I rubbed some more and eventually seemed like I removed the ISM layer. It no longer felt smooth in the area and water did not react the same way. I figure I need to recoat this panel (trunk lid) but I no longer have any product.

It`s one of those dumb mistakes where you think, I should have just left it the way it was. I don`t really want to pay $140 for a whole new bottle but I am concerned about having an uncoated part on my car that may wear differently in the sun. I need a very small amount, enough to coat either just that small 4inchX4inch section or maybe the entire trunk lid. If anyone has any that they probably won`t be using, I would really appreciate it. Please PM me.

Could always pick up a different coating if you are not wanting to drop $140 for one panel.

Yeah, I thought about this too, but I was concerned that using a different coating may change the color characteristics of the trunk lid compared to the rest of the car. Would this not be a risk? The other coating I was looking at was Gyeon Syncro, but that`s $180 anyway. Is there something you would recommend?

BTW, thanks for the quick replies! I really appreciate the input.

You’re probably going to remove all of it. You’ll notice a change in color.

Lovely. Is it really supposed to be that easy to remove? I thought it was supposed to cure into a hard glass like surface that would require machine polishing to remove. I`m actually kinda surprised that a 10:1 diluted APC or a hand finishing polish managed to remove 3 layers of this stuff.

That is Kamikaze. And to be honest, apc should not have touched it. I’d call Todd and see how old that batch was? Don’t know if you’ll get any help but it’s worth a call.

Yeah, I actually called them and dealt with Zack. They said my issue was the high spots and that the APC really shouldn`t have touched it either despite what I was seeing. He pretty much told me to polish the whole car off and start from scratch. I wasn`t about to do that.

Get ahold of BudgetPlan1. I know he messes around with Kamikaze. He may be able to help you out. Or at least give you some advice.

Which makes me think it’s a bad batch, unless application was flawed? I mean no offense, but I found when we used it you had a very long time to work Kamikaze. Even being able to wipe high spots hours later. Did you use overcoat after? If so is that what you’re seeing? It sometimes acts like reload. Just curious?

Is a "bad batch" possible? When I contacted Zack, he did not mention that even as a possibility. Pretty much said the only possible conclusion was improper application and not wiping off the excess material. I even told him that when I polished off high spots and reapplied, I spent significant amounts of time buffing it off and had others watching to ensure that all the excess was gone. Yet, somehow, the next day there were still smudges and high spots. It was really frustrating especially when 3 of us went over the car multiple times to ensure there was nothing else. Mentioning this to Zack, he still said that the only possible conclusion was my mistake at application. At this point, I had not used any overcoat yet. I waited 2 days before I put overcoat on and there were already smudges on the vehicle.

Yeah, I`ve been in contact with him. I actually chose Kamikaze over Gyeon Syncro due to his recommendation. He gave me good insight, but nonetheless, could not resolve what I am going through.

My only other thought is a reaction to the PPF? It may have absorbed some areas differently? Did I read the entire car is covered?

Yeah, the entire car is PPF covered and I thought that may have been an issue. But Esoteric applies Kamikaze to their PPF covered vehicles all the time without issue. Obviously, their skill level is well beyond mine...

I bought my Miyabi and ISM after Esoteric restocked in mid/late Apr. Previously, both were out of stock. Not sure if you are on the same batch as when I bought. I haven`t had the same issue. If you don`t mind me asking, why didn`t you go for there Surface Film Coat which is meant to be used for PPF?

PPF when applied on a hood is pretty rough process. They lay, they pull, they yank, the squeege, they squeegee harder, to make sure the PPF sticks, and stretches to the contour of the hood, etc. The smudges you see only in certain light - can it just slightly thinner ppf film from it be ~worked~ and just a change in how you perceive the topcoat ?

Yeah...for us polishing nuts, if only we seen how it`s applied. we would go apesh1t on the force applied or how it`s manipulated...
Or the xacto knives...

I thought about using the Surface Film Coat but could not find any reviews or anyone who had experience with it. There are great reviews on Miyabe and ISM, and Esoteric applied those to PPF vehicles before the Surface Film Coat was available. So I wanted to stick with a tried and true product rather than going with something no one else has left feedback on.
