Campfire smell

I bought my truck from a friend at work, garage kept never driven in snow! However they did use it to go camping in. I've tried everything from shampooing the carpet and seats, cleaning all the vinyl, and spraying Wurth air duct cleaner though the vents. Nothing seems to completely get rid of the campfire smell, it always comes back just as strong! Any suggestions???

How about the headliner...especially if it is fabric, lots of smell can be kept in there.

Shampooing should have removed the smell...however a good steam clean can also do the trick I have found in most cases.

And if all else fails...febreeze? hehe

I am sure someone else with much more experience will chime in here....

Isn't that something that an ozone generator would help with? I've heard it helps quite a bit for cigarette smells. Even in my small town, some of the body shops have them and the smoke/flood/mold remediation for home guys will have more powerful versions.

Yeah the headliner! Any idea how to clean that?

I have used a steam cleaner in the past. I imagine you could also use fabric cleaner solution on it as well, just take in mind not to saturate it as the backing is most likely cardboard, or somethign else that could fall apart.

As far as the ozone generator...I would try this route first before taking it to a place with one of those, simply since I imagine it may be expensive.

You are probably going to need an ozone treatment to completely get rid of the odor. It should not cost you more than $75-100. As far as the cleaning the head liner; you should use a foaming cleaner as to not get it too wet. Stoner's Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner works well.

Be VERY careful cleaning your headliner! I read some instructions here and thought I was being careful and the headliner glue came detached from the roof. Somehow its still hanging there...gotta get it fixed sometime!

About the smell, I was reading some interior threads yesterday and someone mentioned they had gotten rid of cigarette smoke smell by making a mixture of ammonia & water and applying it to the interior about 5 times.
