I have a set of custom dual exhaust on my PT Cruiser. I had baffles in the tail pipes to tone down the sound, but since they were screwed in not welded they fell out,. Iordered another set, but I noticed they were a little shorter than the ones i lost, now i have them welded on, but I noticed the sound is not changed much with this set, is it possible that the shorter baffle does not effect the tone as much as the longer ones? if so what can I do now to tone the system down now after the fact, I feel like the supplier should of known about this, thanks in advance.
 
What brand exhaust is it? The long the baffles the more sound it will muffle. You could try welding in another baffle.

If you are using an open baffle design where the air can go straight through and the walls are just baffled you won't have to worry about performance. Do you have the turbocharged model? What model exhaust did you get because I don't really see anything that uses baffels on their site, unless I missed it.
 
Yes, mine is a turbo. the system came with baffles that can be used as an option. I ran the car for years before wanting to tone it down a little so I put in the baffles, it did a good job, but these don't seem to work as well. all they are is like you said, just a pipe inserted in the tail pipe.
 
Keep in mind that when switching from a single exhaust to dual, you are reducing backpressure. Sometimes when you reduce the backpressure too much, you are actually losing HP.



I would find a complete bolt on aftermarket exhaust and go that route. If you prefer the custom dual and no aftermarkets kits are avail in dual, then work with a good exhaust shop and they should be able to put anice system together for you.



Wooooooops, didn't see that you had a turbo....the better it breathes the better. I would think you would you would be better off changing the muffler for a quiter and more free flowing one.
 
I like the system I have. its all stainless steel, and has a great sound, I just want to tone it down a little. These shorter ones I put in don't do it like the original ones, that was my concern. Gary

They might have dual stock. I know the SRT-4 does. And these are Turbo models so I don't think they have to worry about the back pressure as much as a N/A design.



I would call the place up and see if they have the longer baffles still and if you could get those. You could always add in a baffle pipe in the system. A cherry bomb style muffler. I believe the SRT-4's actually have some of those cherry bomb style mufflers in their system.
