okay so i have some meguiars colorx. i dont know anything hardly im here to learn. I will be waxing it by hand. i dont have tons of time to spend. is this a good product. is there anything that i should use before applying the colorx like a polish or something? or is there anything ishould use after it like another wax to add coats? anything to give it more shine or last longer? I would need stuff that is OTC available at auto stores. thanks guys

if all you have is colorx it will work fine, just make sure you work it in pretty well as it's a cleaner/polish/wax all in one, and let it dry like a normal LSP (last step product) before removing it (you can also top it with nxt for added protection). also, make sure to clay beforehand if needed...

I'd recommend claybaring it as well after you wash it before you touch it with any polish or wax, but you said you didn't have much time.

If you've never claybar'd before it'll probably take you all of 2 - 2 1/2 hours, but the results will be much better.

I'd finish it all of with some NXT.

Your best recourse for right now results and with otc products could be from megs DC 3 step system (cleaner, polish and wax) or the similar system from mother's. After the first coat from step 3, keep following up periodically with step three (wax). When you've applied a few coats spaced out over time, you should have a nicely textured finish.

I have used the megs and mother's three step system in the past with respectable results. Good luck. In time, after you've observed some results from some of our members, start experimenting with different products and techniques so as to improve your finish results.

Dude, what's with the multiple threads in the same forum? It's bad enough when someone cross-post a question on different forums, but the same one???

velobard- Well, the duplicate threads give me an easy way to reconsider my advice ;) On the other thread, I just said that I couldn't recommend something OTC (but rather would use 1Z PP). but on second thought ScottWax's suggestion to use #9 topped with NXT sounds pretty sensible.

truereligion- Nah, the cleaners in NXT are supposedly so gentle that they won't strip off previously applied Meguiar's products; their stuff is designed to work together. Can't speak from first-hand experience though. But if ScottWax says it works, then it does.

I've read that the cleaners in NXT allow for about 2 layers, but that's about it. What I'd really like to know is how anyone can determine that.

Before ColorX / NXT; After ColorX / NXT

The 1st is before. The rest are afters.

:nixweiss I have yet to see any proof any product truly layers and actually film builds.

Bingo!

According to Mike Phillips, the chemists at Meguiar's agree. Meguiar's recommends two coats of LSP for maximum coverage, not layering.

If products could actually be layered, you can bet Barry Meguiar would instruct his guys to recommend four, six or twenty coats of NXT or #21. Think of the increased sales and think of Barry missing out on the extra income.

Do a search on this site and you will find a wealth of information on debated threads on the attributes (and the arguments against) layering. Pure carnauba wax(es) are well known for their ability to layer deposits. Some sealants have acclaimed themselves to have been able to layer. Cleaning lsp products have been noted as not having an ability to layer deposits.
