Cadillac Emergency!

I am detailing a 1990 (in think) cadillac and im almost positive it has a clear coat because the white isnt coming onto the pad. My theory is that the base coat of paint is cracked and the clear coat is over it. Any ideas? Please help, i have to have the car finished by tomorrow night.

Those are not swirls on the top! i dont get it!

What is the most and second most aggressive combo you are using?

Rotary or DA?

What brand and color pads do you have?

What compound and polishes do you have?

If its under the clear coat there is nothing that you can do. If you are not getting paint transfer to a pad or towel then it has a clear coat.

To *me* it just looks like really bad swirling.

Post more when you can.

Yeah those look like deep swirls to me as well. Maybe its a re-paint with rock hard paint? Whatever pad and polish combo you are using now try going a step or two more aggressive and see if it makes a dent.

I used Menz IP using a yellow CCS 4 inch pad. Then after that i used Powergloss compound using yellow ccs also. Almost not difference. Plus there are fin scratches that look almost as if there in a pattern. Im thinking that the cars base coat is cracked.

Im also using a rotary.

I have 106, ip, powergloss, Zaio, Klasse aio... i dont have many i know...

ya ^^^^ agree with above!!! u may need to step up your attack...

chevys can have a hard clear coat so hit it hard!!!

GM clears can be tough. If it was me (again I dont know your level of skill) I would hit it at about 2000rpms with the power gloss. Gotta also remember power gloss doesnt finish LSP ready so it will cause some marring and scratching. Gotta follow it up with IP or SIP.

The car looks like it has been repainted and the aged paint has begun to crack. Better to just walk away from a job like that now, rather than risk making things worse. .

Yeah gotta agree here especially if you cant make a dent with PG and a yellow pad Id walk away.

If it's cracking and splitting, it will look like a dry crusty desert floor that is all cracking up, not like scratches and swirls which is what those pics look like to me.

It's possible that it got clear coated over the swirls.

Have you ever tried wetsanding before? That would really tell you if those will come out or not.

if you are using a 4" pad on the rotary you can kick up the RMP a little or use a larger pad

remeber on a rotary the larger the pad the more aggresive

it is the opposite of the PC

how much time do you have on the rotary?

20 details give or take a few... I experimented with burning the paint just to see how easy (or hard) it was

do you have any before after full sun/light picture of any

defect removal?

remeber all paint / materials are different when it comes to burning the paint

Im trying to logically figure out why the bigger pad would be more aggressive... Ile take your word for it but i didnt realize that.

:secret because the egde of the larger pad spins faster and makes more heat
