Well..Im doing it...laying down the cash for a new PC..No more working the car by hand or an orbital. I have narrowed it down to the Dewalt DW849 or CMA has a "Spinoff" type PC called the Vector (less $$$)...I know you get what you pay for but here is the condition of my car...and you all tell me:

2000 Volvo S70...well taken care of AIO/SG from th beginning...shinny paint...a blemishes of water spots on the hood, roof and trunk..a few clarcoat scratches...aside from that ..not too bad..sooooo

I will not use this thing everyday...only on occasions when applying SMR or Klasse (stage 1,Red bottle)

What type of pads and backing plate will I need to keep the car in shape with this condition paint?

What PC should I go with ..CMA likes the old school Dewalt..I like the sturdiness of the machine...

the Vector..looks sturdy, but what so cheap?...

Im a new PC user...so,Im a bit cautious and nervous...Both models just need a plate and a few pads...am I forgeting something?...Any advice wil be good..Thanks all...much apprecited from the experts like you...Lance

I don't tell people what they should or shouldn't buy but merely make suggestions.. so on that note, I use the 7424 with 6.5" backing plate with a whack of pads.

I used the Dewalt and find it nice.. I kinda like it better. It seems more "heavy duty" and professional like than my 7424.

I use all Lake Country Pads..

I use 3 designated Orange pads for compound work

I use a designated white pad for AIO's

I use a designated grey/black of SG's

I use a MF bonnet for removing SG's

a good site is properautocare.com and read the section of buffers/polishers.

and that's good enough for me..

Please dont move my post to University..Thanks

Please don't crosspost. Thanks. -- Tort

Use the search engine. I am going to list the meguiars pads. For general use you can't go wrong with 2 6 inch polishing foam pads and a 6 inch finishing pad. Get the dewalt.

You might regret something less than a PC. Getting an appropriate tool make the polishing a lot less frustrating on the user. One guy just said he picked up a PC 7336 for $109 at Lowes - check it out. Get the Lake Country pads from TOL - at minimum 3 yellow (cutting), 3 white (polishing) and 3 finishing (charcoal). Make sure you have some Eagle One Wipe & Shine - it help you get the AOI on thinly and helps with streak removal.

I think the dewalt and vector you are mentioning are rotarty polishers?

But as far as PC's go, I also have the 7336 from loews and it's great.

The pro's and cons of the DeWalt and Vector buffers have been discussed before. You calling rotary buffers a "PC" is probably going to confuse some people as to which one you want.

Btw, it's up to the Mods where the threads get moved. Sorry, but we don't take requests.
