Buying a real buffer

Hello again!

I have been using blackfire for a little bit now, and I am very impressed with the product. However, I have that itch to try Souveran. I am sure some of you can relate. So, my question is, what is the best process to use with this product? In other words, should I use a glaze, (IE IHG) or what? The car is basically a daily driver, but as a 21 year old with time on his hands, I love to detail the car often. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks for the plethora of knowledge you all provide.

it is so easy - there is almost no process at all. it doesn't have any cleaners in it, so do any swirl reduction, oxidation removal, claying you want to do first. My guess is if you've already got BF on there you won't need to do much of anything other than wash the car. (Just to get the dust off - you don't need to strip the BF off.)

Then just follow the instructions - I like to apply it to one or two sections at a time with a foam pad - very light pressure and you don't need much. You do not need to wait for it to cure, or even to turn all white like other carnaubas (although it WILL do that fairly quickly.) Buff it off with a clean micro-fiber wipe. You will be pleased and amazed. It is the easiest wax I have ever used, bar none.

OK, thanx for that advice, but I guess my last question is this...Is there any certain polish that anyone recommends before I put this on? Like I said, would IHG be a good choice, or does anyone have a better option for me? Thanx again, this is great advice.

I use Souveran on top of Blackfire and it works great. Do the BF application as directed, QD your car to remove any surface cruddies and lay on a coat of Souveran. I think you'll love it.

You don't need any other polish if your are applying Souveran over BF. If you've just got to use a product prior to Souveran then the IHG will be fine. So will PPCL or most other similar light polishes. Anything to remove and fill swirls prior to sealing off with the Souveran.

Enjoy!!

If your surface is already perfect and no other paint prep is necessary, I would use Meguiar's #7 or better yet, Meguiar's Hand Polish prior to applying Souveran. I've never tried MHP myself, but I'm basing this on the recommendation of someone who uses MHP hundreds of times a year by hand.

PPCL works great too. It's extremely easy to use and leaves a very nice smooth surface, but I'm sure you wouldn't want to be using a cleaner every month whenever you apply Souveran.

IHG provides a great deep shine too, but it has a tendency to streak and is VERY difficult to buff completely on a black car.

So I'm gonna be buying the Meguiar's M105/M205 Kit with Lake Country Pads
& Porter Cable 7424XP Orbital Polisher package in a day or two. I'm thinking I should get some extra pads for applying my Blackfire wax and polish. I have the Paint Protection and Gloss Enhancing Polish. I was going to get 3 of the white and three of the black CCS HiGloss pads. The white for the Paint Protection and the black for the Polish. Do you think this will be the best pad combination for these products?

Can't say about pads for the BF products, only one I've used is the BFWD sealant and it goes and comes off so slick by hand I don't even bother with applying it by machine anymore

I will offer a suggestion re: the 105/205 and pads though... don't bother. Just came from the garage after another round with the new Meg's MF DA Correction system and it's all you need to correct and polish. I am flat out astounded by it's ease of use and results.

I had a few spots that I thought needed 105 and a rotary and I'd forgotten what a pain in the neck 105 is. Spatter all over the place and the dust gets everywhere and it isn't exactly a pleasure to wipe off. I switched gears and used the MF Correcting Compound with PFW on the rotary and the defects came right out slicker than snot and any splatter wipes right off easily as does the residue. No experimenting and guessing on what color pad to use with this system... one for correcting and polishing, one for finishing.

Based on my experience with these products over the last few days I'd suggest a DA of your choice and a MF DA starter kit and some extra pads. I'm doing a full sized extended cab 4x4 with the two cutting pads in the kit, I'd be happier with about 6 pads. When they get a little gunky switching to a fresh pad is an absolute pleasure!

If you're going to apply BF products white and black pads ought to work fine. After the DA Finishing Wax BFWD with a black pad ought to be all you need.
