bumperthumper

DaGonz

Autopia fire/rescue.
:(

I got into a "bumperthumper" this morning with the F-150 ...I hit the van stopped in front of me and pushed my bumper in. It was a low speed collison, the airbags did not deploy, neither I nor the other driver were hurt, it just depresses me.

The bumper will have to be replaced. All of the paperwork necessary has been filed with the Registry, my insurance company and the PD.

Any Autopian shrinks out there?

if this gives you any idea of our trucks, the bumper on the truck I have has been replaced 3 times.

1 time on of my dad's employees backed into it.

1 time my brother slid into somone on ice.

1 time he hit somonne doing 45, I was in the truck for this one.

All 3 times the airbags didn't deploy.

if the bumper isn't dented, and just mushed back on one side there is a chance it can be adjusted. If you look where the bumper attaches to the frame, you'll see four bolts. Two going into the frame, but in the end, and two also going into the frame, but into the side of the frame. These attach to a plate which has slots for each direction. If you loosen the blots the bumper can be slid in/out, and up/down.

Hope that helps if the bumper isn't dented.

P.S. I always leave my trailer hitch on my towing package. 2 reasons. #1 I go off roading and thats what i hook the strap onto so i can just jump out and pull other people out, or they can pull me out of the swamp.

#2 is when somone rearends me, there is less damage to my truck. Somone hit me from behind, and the hitch put a hole through the other guy's bumper big enough to fit a milk jug into. Stopped when it hit his radiator support.

Before anyone flames me for that. Look at it this this way, your going to hit me anyways. It's either my truck and your car, or just your car. If I hit somone with a hitch on, I'd be pissed I hit them, but i'd understand the big dent in my bumper. I hit him. It would be my fault.

Now, Flame away!

I went to the body shop that I use today to have them look my truck. The adjuster's estimate for parts, paint and labor was $598.

The body shop manager said it is a one day job, barring any unforseen problems. He's ordering the parts today and they should be in by Friday, and we are shooting for Monday, February 3rd for the repair day.

The bad part is...I have a $500 deductible, so the insurance company pays $98, I get to pay $500...
