Buick Rendezvous remastered

This one really pushed me here. I had the client come with some pretty big request. He bought it from a auction dealer and it really showed. First off he wanted the paint back in shape.... No easy task. I did get a reprieve from the back bumper as it was obviously repainted wrong and was flaking off anyways so he was going to take it in to get it done right anyways. But the rest of it he wanted to look good again. And it was a mess to say the least. The interior he wanted a different color. Not drastic but it seemed like someone previously tried dying the carpet and somewhere it went wrong...



Here's what I got to start with..

definatly going to be a fun detail... Start with the decontamination.



A wash with some DP extreme foam

Clay with purple clay



And the wheels were done with Danase's Wheel assasin. This stuff really works and quick. A little caustic but if you know what you're doing with HF cleaners this stuff is just amazing.

After decam I got to really look at what I was in for.....:woot:

Up next... Color changes galore!! LOl

So I started out with the floor mats that way if it wasn't working like I needed it to I could just simply powerwash them out before they took hold. I used SEM carpet/vinyl dye. The previous color was like an off oatmeal mixed with random shades of brownish here and there. Just a bad dye job.

I took out the seats.. And taped off the rest.

The new color actually matched his dash better.

After I got the initial coat on to give it the base I needed to let that set in so I went to the exterior and started getting that back in shape...



First up I taped off a test panel (half the hood LOL) to see what needed to be done. Obviously wetsanding it down was going to be needed. So that was step one.

And then to get it back to a good gloss I went with some Evercoat Compound medium duty followed up by Danase's swirl abolisher system

And finally topped it off with some good ol Ultrafina SE. My half and half pics fuzzed up.. This is about the time I dropped my camera for those following that story...

But once I got the process down I went with it and came up with this for a nice solid finish.

That was all day 1

starting out on day two I picked up where I left off. Finished out the paint.. Did a few more coats on the interior and put it back together for him...

This one really pushed me. The dying was a total pain in the arse. unbolting everything taping off everything etc etc... The paint was fun. but very involved. everything else came out great. The customer really liked the turn around. and will be recommending me to anyone he knows that needs my services.

Can't quite understand spending what you are going to have to charge on this job for a Rendezvous but as long as the owner is happy, right?



You've been getting some rough SUV's lately. Makes for some long days but really nice pay. I got one coming up on Monday-Escalade ESV that got hammered by another detailer.

Really depends on what I'm doing if I want to tape the mouldings up or not. In this case I taped off some edges and around the mirrors (no pics but trust me I did it LOL) I haven't burned a moulding in probably 10 years or so.. I'm pretty comfortable around them... If they stick out or I think they are loose or have any sort of edge I tape them off. If they are just rounded I usually don't need to bother... Been really contemplating making a vid about moulding and wheeling one day to prove a point but I couldn't imagine the backlash I'd get LOL

Did you use any steel wool on those wheels? are you diluting the wheel cleaner?



I actually have a 13mm socket ready for the rear tray on my work cart bcuz I work on rendezvous so much. Thats actually a nicer one (if there is such a thing).

No steel wool. But the cleaner is diluted down to safe dose. I beleive 10:1 maybe more... And yea the back ticked me off... The nuts are different sizes from the front seats to the back seats.. You'd think it would be more cost effective if they were all the same... LOL. And honestly as much fun as this one was I really hope I don't see anymore rendezvous's for awhile...

sick and epic turn-around. This is what everyone who buys an auctioned off vehicle needs to have done. The carpet work is completely sick - i'd love to come watch and learn how you do that. the results speak for themselves!
