Bugs on hood of Bug....

My son came home with his VW Bug and the hood is totally trashed with bugs. We scrubbed with a bug sponge and bug and tar remover, but I think that his finish is finished! I am thinking about trying the PC with a wool pad and some FI II. Has anyone tried this with success on bug damage?

wet sanding... The cars we get at work from florida always get wet sanded because of the damn bugs.

It is love bug season here and they stink!!! there buggy skeletons must be made of titanium as they can do some damage from a high speed kamakazi mission onto paint!

Once its fixed, get the 3M front end protective film or the equivalent. Stuff is great, but I can't remember what the exact product name was. I got lazy and paid someone to apply it.

Some people cringe at this, but I spray the front end of some of my vehicles with Pam cooking oil before long trips into lake country (Mayflies suck). And then use Meg#34 to clean up once I get there.

Why cringe? Take some bacon and eggs in a cooler and you can stop at a rest stop when you're hungry. Slap those suckers on the hot hood and you'll have yourself a right tasty breakfast!

:D

Could you just apply a thick layer of inexpensive wax and not remove the residue, when you get to where your going you can get some soapy water and rinse it off...

It's too late for protection.... He is pretty lazy about washing. There is definitely some etching in the paint as well as the inevitible chips. I may consider going for some high speed buffing, but this will probably end up being a paint job. I'm going to put some Zaino on today and next time he comes down, I will have to really do something about it.... I think he is going to buy a bra for now. If I do repaint, I will probably do the Xpel stuff. I think it will look pretty good on the Bug..

If you decide to use a rotary on the bug shoot me a PM, we can go over some possible ways to tackle the problem. :xyxthumbs

I think your looking for a product called Expel. I believe it's a 3M product. There are quite a few folks here that put it on the front of their vehicle to protect it from bugs and rock chips. It goes by various brand names, and you can get it already cut to fit, or do it yourself. You can also get it installed professionally.

I put a strip on the top of my tailgate, on my truck, where the gasket from the cap meets the paint. And after a year and 1/2 half, it's still on perfectly, and looks like new.

Shop around as prices vary, and so does the cost of installation. Enjoy!
