Bug Time

Some people put Turtle Wax on Vettes?!? Arggggggh.:( I almost had a heart attack when I saw the 39 Jag until I was it was a replica. I started thinking to myself who in their right mind would put Turtle Wax on a car like that.

To each his own I guess.

I've got nothing against Vette's, but that has got to be the ugliest color you could possibly choose for your car.

Does TW really last for a year like they say?

This may be heresy but as I understand it, 80% of the final result is in the technique used. So even if these folk used Turtle Wax, they still seem to end up with shiny cars. Sure, the product may not be the best, but does there choice really mean that they don’t care about the way the car looks. If they can produce good results with TW, imagine what they could do with premium products.

It has been said before, the skills of someone like BradB using TW could give a better result than an unskilled person using Klasse/Zaino etc. So why do with give these folk a hard time?

Its because if they take tat 80% of technique and use the other 20% on good products they would achieve even better results and would be better for your car over all.

If most of us pulled next to one of these cars at a stoplight, we'd think that was a well-cared for car. We all like a nice looking car. What difference does it make what products were used to get it there.

If you took one of those TW'd cars and parked it next to one of your Zainoklasseblackfirep21smeguiars specials at a car show, I'll bet a paycheck most passers by could not tell a difference between the two.

What would you do if the TW car beat yours in a judged car show?

99% of the cars on the road get little or no car care. We are elite simply because we take excellent care of our cars. A co-worker of mine just washed his Suburban for the first time in memory. Defintely the first time in 2001. That's pretty typical.

One last point - There is no question that the TW users spent a fraction of the $$ we spend on car care. If the differences are minor, who is really ahead?

yeah, both sides have a definate point.

sometimes it just irks me to see a guy spend 8 hours on a car only to have the final result last as long as turtle wax does, despite the looks, sometimes I just want to go over to them and give them my Klasse :)

Absolutely. You can't even begin to compare Turtle Wax to Klasse or Zaino. It's just unfair. Klasse and Zaino will provide superior protection and are much more durable. One thing though, there is a big difference in shine and reflection from a car that has 5 layers of Turtle Wax to a car that has 5 layers of Z-2. The Zainoed car will look much nicer. Laters.

Yep, I agree with Bretfraz. It also depends on how new your car is and your photography skills. I remember once RH said, "Even my grandma can make a new car shine."

wow, RH, I didn't know your grandmother was into detailing :D

I've learned a lot about the correct angles when taking pictures of my car. You'll notice that I don't post many pictures of my car directly perpendicular to the side panels, cause my satin silver finish just won't reflect back at you as a dark car would. Everyone should experiment with the way they take pictures of their cars. It is funny, the looks I get at the local park of people that stare at me taking pics of my car.

Yes, she likes to can wax at the end of summer for use over the winter. Ooops, that's tomatoes.;)

I bet these cars are "mileormores" they look good from a mile or more away. OK maybe yardormores. LOL

I bet they do look good though. Technique is extremely important. And if someone applies wax/sealant/polymer every weekend or every other who could ever truly tell the difference? Ecspecially if their technique was top notched.

If the cars are swirl free, shine and do not have a better car next to it I bet they would look great.

HMMMMMMMMMMM I wonder have I been wasting money?

NAH this is too much fun trying different stuff.

I wonder, therefore I experiment!

The number one rule in the war against bug grime is to act quickly! Many insects have acidic body fluids which can permanently etch your car's finish if allowed to bake under the sun. The sooner you remove bug smear the better. A good layer of wax or sealant on your car's finish will help but don't depend on it to stop pitting from insect fluids. Left to bake under the sun, the acidic insect fluids can cut through the toughest wax or sealant.

The number one tool in our arsenal against bug grime is this honeycomb sponge. Called the Safe Scrub Bug & Tar Sponge, this remarkable product quickly and safely removes the toughest bug grime and tar residues, without marring the finish!

To remove insect smear, simply dip the sponge in a bucket of soapy water (use a car wash shampoo, not a dish-washing soap), scrub away residues and rinse. The car wash shampoo will act as a lubricant. Safe Scrubs can be used on glass, chrome, vinyl, fiberglass, paint and clear coat finishes, without scratching or hazing the finish.

Also the use of 1Z einszett Anti-Insekt Pre-Cleaner on those nasty bugs help so much. Its special formula breaks up acidic insect bodies so they can be safely washed away. Insects produce acids as they decompose that will eat into automotive paint, leaving permanent etchings.

1Z einszett Anti-Insekt Pre-Cleaner is a 'pre-treatment' for your paintwork prior to washing. 1Z einszett Anti-Insekt Pre-Cleaner contains special cleaners which loosens insects and grime from paintwork, chrome, glass, rubber and plastic gently and safely without harsh chemical solvents. 1Z Anti-Insekt Pre-Cleaner is designed to remove insect residues without removing existing wax or sealant coatings. 1Z einszett Anti-Insekt Pre-Cleaner eliminates the need for aggressive, surface-scratching bug sponges. Simply spray on the surface, allow to work for 3 minutes then hose off. Anti-Insekt does not contain enzymes, will not irritate skin, is biodegradable, formalin-free, and environmentally safe.

To remove tar, spray the tar with a tar remover you can use Stoner Tarminator, dip the Safe Scrub Sponge in a bucket of soapy water and scrub the tar off. DO NOT use the sponge dry! Rinse the surface, wipe dry and reapply your Blackfire wax or sealant. The Safe Scrub will remove existing wax or sealant coatings.

Man, I had to travel from KC to Hutchinson, Kansas yesterday, with most of my driving being after dark and at times I thought it was raining, but it was bug juice, so I have a mess on my hands. Not only that, my conference gets done here tomorrow night at 8:00, and I have to head back to KC (4 hour drive) in the dark, through desolate roads with fields on both sides and bugs EVERYWHERE. So, I can't imagine what the front of my poor Volvo is going to look like when I pull her in the garage tomorrow night!!!

I may need one of these. I have a clear bra on the bumper and 1/4 of the hood, but I have a feeling the little critters will be in every nook and cranny! Looks like a great product.
