Bug Squash vs. Salt

The more I use Bug Squash.... the more I like it.

My neighbor (Greg) is a salesman, and has put 100+ miles on his truck since we detailed it last weekend. Today we had a few inches of snow/sleet and the state trucks layed down a few feet of salt!

Greg wanted to spray off the salt tonight...... We pre-treated his MDX with Bug-Squash, and let it stand for 5min, and sprayed it off.

The pic isn't the best (night shot), but you can't see any salt can you? His sides were covered with salt/grime goo and bug squash ate 80% of it off.

Stay tuned.... It's being pulled into the garage and I'll show you a few shots under the lights. Not a single spot on the paint has been wiped with a MF or Mitt.

I just bought some bug squash and used it for the first time the other day. I diluted it 3:1 for use a pre-wash as the label suggested. I was not impressed with it at all when diluted, but full strength it had good cleaning power. Now, I have to buy more because I used at least half the bottle for my dilution.

Bite your tongue! BS kicked some tail on the salt. Here are a few more shots in better lighting. Sure it's not 100% clean, but it's SIGNIFICANTLY better than hosing it down with water to wash off the salt & goo.

p.s. - The NL is holding up well on the tires and wells too! I used to be a BnB man, but NL is starting to change my mind.

I might be off here, but doesn't soap work on salt?

Yep, it sure does. But when it's below freezing and you don't want to marr the heck out of your paint, Bug Squash gets the goo off the paint.

Did you dilute the bug squash or use it full strength? Because I was saying I wasn't satisfied with its performance when diluted, but I liked it full strength.

In the summer I dilute it, in the winter I use it full strength. Give it another shot.

I tried it both ways. Full strength was way better. I see where you say in the summer you use it diluted. Do you think lower temps inhibit its performance?

Not at all.

Steve sent me a sample last winter -he was using it at the car wash for pre-treatment. It dissolves the salt/crap that they treat the roads with (not 100%, but pretty good). I like using it as a pre-wash in the winter, because it reduces marring.

In the summer I think it works best to remove fresh tar, and on the front end (bumper bugs).

I have some of the stuff on the way to my house as we speak. Then its time to OWN the salt. :boxing:

Do you have to wet the car with water first,..then spray the bug squash/water solution on? Or do you just spray it on first thing and let it soak then rinse it off?

How does your LSP stand up to the Bug Squash (full strength use or diluted)?

I haven't noticed a dramatic drop off in slickness or beading after using BS at full strength. I doubt if I've ever had a topper 'untouched' for more than a month to 6 weeks -so it's kind of hard for me to give you a complete answer on that one.

This is interesting. A week ago I sprayed a part of my salty car with BS and the rest I left alone, then I sprayed it off after letting the BS dwell a couple minutes. The section with BS looked NO DIFFERENT than where I did not spray. I was not impressed.
Also, I have found BS is useless for tar.
However, it does work good on bugs I think. I was just disappointed that 2 of it's 3 uses did not seem to work for me.

-Did you rinse the surface with water BEFORE spraying BS on the panel? This is a key to 'activating' the BS.

-Did you use BS cut or full strength? (Full strength is best for the winter slop)

-Did you let it dwell for 3-5 minutes (It's important to give it some time to break down the surface grime).

Hey have you been reading my mind

those were the questions and comments i was going to make :yourrock

No
Yes (full strength)
Yes (about 5 minutes)

I figured rinsing the surface first will dilute the BS so I did not do it. Maybe I'll try that if it works for you best that way. How do you know water activates the BS better than no water?
