Hi Everyone,
I am a Baby Boomer who has lusted over the "Z's" since its early days. Romantic memories maybe. Time was right and I traded BMW diesel for a 2015 White Pearl 370Z Nismo Tech. Don't you love the Bucket List excuse! The passion all of you have for your autos is so impressive. I am excited to be a new member of your forum. When my car was removed from the car carrier truck there was a nasty bobo on the rear bumper from the car behind it. The dealer will replace the whole bumper for me, still not much comfort to begin life with my new car. Here is my question, after the paint cures on new bumper do I use my nano fine mit and then polish it before sealing and waxing the BRAND new car, or do I just seal and wax. Thanks
 
Welcome! If the dealer is painting the bumper, you have to wait 30-90 days (ask the painter) before sealing and waxing to allow for out gassing. The rest of the vicar can be polished, sealed, and waxed however you deem fit.
 
I witnessed first hand what happens when someone waxes over fresh paint.. it becomes hazy over time and only wetsanding will correct it.

Definitely wait a few months before waxing fresh paint!

Not to hijack the thread... but if I just bought a new car that the dealer did not paint, but I took it home the day after the distributer delivered it to their lot, should I still be waiting 30-90 days before sealing/waxing or is it a pretty safe bet that it was painted long before then?

Not sure I understand... You bought an unpainted car from the dealer, who painted it then? If it's still unpainted don't put wax or sealant on it (duh).

If it was painted and is factory paint do a VIN look up to get a build date so you know if it's been more than 30-90 days...
 
SYMAWD- I'll support you on the "not all dealership detailers are hacks". While I *am* usually critical of the work done at dealerships (based on first-hand observation), sometimes their guys are perfectly OK (and not just back in the days when I did it at the local Chrysler store :D ). There was a guy at my Audi dealer who was so good I let him prep some new cars for me and my family. Unfortunately he finished grad school and went on to his real career.

My brain was only half working that late, but by "new car that the dealer did not paint," I meant that I bought a car that was painted at the factory, not an unpainted car. I was trying to imply that I didn't have the same situation as the original poster, who had the dealer redo a part, if I read it correctly.

Anyway, thanks, and I'll look up LSP in the sticky about acronyms later.
