Hey all,



Yesterday I finally got the car I've been waiting for a bit ahead of when I was expecting it.



I was planning on researching out paint protection, etc. before I got the car so I'd be ready to get everything done when it arrived.



My dealership was trying to sell me on Paint Protection, Sound Shield, Fabric/Leather Protection, Rust Protection. I believe they recommended Diamond-Kote for all 4.



Should I be considering a different product for each? What should I get and what should I avoid? I've heard from some saying 3M is the best for Paint Protection. Thomas (from these forums) highly recommended XPEL.



I'm probably posting in the wrong area so sorry about that. Just thought I'd post real quick before going to work and hopefully get some answers when I'm back so I can take the next step and get some of this stuff done to my car.



  • I plan on driving it in the winter so I definitely want the Paint Protection to try to protect against rock chips, etc.
  • The Sound Shield would be nice since I do a lot of talking on my phone in the middle of the workday.
  • Not really sure about the Fabric/Leather protection. I of course want it looking nice.
  • And well, nobody wants rust.
  • As for the undercoating, I don't really know where that's covered. But the BRZ is a low car so I'm imaging I should be getting that as well.





If anybody can offer me up on some advice as to what I should get and what I should avoid I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
 
Tell the dealer to get lost and I wouldn't waste my money on any of their offerings.



Find a reputable Xpel PPF installer in your area and have their Ultimate (self-healing) film Installed. I would also look at having Optimum Opti-Coat/Guard applied for the paint. Let us know where you're located and we can probably help find someone for you.





I believe you have leather side bolsters and Alcantara inserts. I'd suggest Leather Masters cleaner and protection cream for the side bolsters and a fabric protectant for the Alcantara. My new car has similar seats and the suede material was color fast with Scotch Guard so I ended up using 303's Fabric Guard

Smallish city. I know there's a few around town but not sure of the quality of the work. Thanks again for the reply. I'll read up on all of it.
 
I've actually never done any detailing myself. Is there any of this that I can safely do myself? For instance, to protect the interior, seats, etc?
 
first off hell yeah on buying the brz! i've been following the ft86 build from the start and i am hoping one day i can own 1 too.



i too would not let the dealer even touch the car. i work for a bmw dealer and believe me; they can damage the paint and i've seen it happen.



when it comes to interior i can't offer much help. on my cars i tend to just vacum them and use an air compressor to blowout the dust. if anything is left i use a microfiber cloth with whatever interior spray i have.



as for the outside: i would deff completly clean it and seal it. these cars are transported in open trucks from the port to the dealer. therefore they get covered in dirt, grim, exhaust gases etc. i would wash, clay, and wax/seal. you can do it all your self. just take your time. pics of the brz?
 
Hey, sorry, hadn't checked this thread for a while. I will get pics up soon. Got the PPF on it earlier today. Will wash it up and take some pictures to post in the next few days.
