Brand new 2014 Black Mazda 3 - What to use!

Hey everyone,


 


To start, I'v been detailing my own car for a few years now so i am comfortable with doing it myself.  That being said, I used to have a white car, I just bought my new mazda and from what I'v heard, black is very hard to maintain.


 


Could anybody help me decide which products to buy to keep my black car looking crisp?  I just picked it up two days ago and haven't touched the paint on it yet.


 


what do you guys suggest?

Well, I had a black GTI for 4 years and we bought our daughter a Mazda 3 new back in 2010 so I think I can help. I would just wash, clay, light polish and I am liking Menzerna Power Lock lately. I have used a grout sponge and a 5 gallon bucket with grit guard, wash at least 2 times a month - 3D has a great booster wax and it's easy to use for keeping the shine.

Good choice on the 3, I think they rock!

I'm not sure on the 2014, but I'm assuming the Mazda paint is still pretty soft.  For paint like this, I actually like the HD UNO product.  You simply adjust the results by adjusting the pad you're using versus trying to figure out what polish/pad combo might work.  I've had good luck with it.


As far as LSP appearance, nothing been a nuba on black...but that's not realistic unless you can invest a lot of time into it. 


If the car is brand new, you could touch up any imperfections from the dealer and go with a high-quality coating like Gtechniq (or similar).  That will actually give you a hard-coat product that will help resist the inevitable marks and keep them to a minimum for a long period of time.  Then you could simply use a spray sealant that you like along the way...Gtechniq makes versions that obviously work and bond with their own product best.  Any coating will have some setup like this.


Going this route from Day-1 would keep it looking pretty good if you maintain it from there.  If it gets out and about without having something done to it, it's hard to get Mazda paint perfect again...it can just be a lot of work.

I used HD Speed with a white polish pad and Collinite 845 by hand on my 2011 Blk Mica 3.  Turned out very nice.


The paint was fairly easy to correct.

As a detailer, I love black cars.

But I have only owned one of them.


I would definitely look into coating the vehicle,

after you polish it from the dealer.


For me, the ease of install of Opti Coat combined

with its long durability makes it a contender.


If you have no coating experience, purchase Opti Seal

to practice with, as these are applied nearly identically.
