Boy Was This a Mistake or Not???

Just One More Coat
That turned out with a result that was much better than I thought.

Two days ago while multitasking (big mistake for me) I decided to do a load of MFT from the weekend....I put them into the washer added the soap and some oxy-clean...but decided to leave the lid open so that they could soak before the machine would kick in...Last night the wife went to start a load of wash and YES I had forgot to close the lid on the machine and they had been soaking for two days:D

So she started them up and when I went to take them out this morning...I noticed that they where ALLOT cleaner than, if I had just thrown them in and started washing them

Not that I think 48 hours is a good soak time but I am convinced that soaking for a hour or two would be beneficial to them

Anyone else soaking your MFT before washing?

I did the same this weekend... well I didn't forget about them though :).

I loaded up the washer, added a little detergent and a few scoops of oxy clean and then just left the lid up for an hour and a half. They are clean and I'm sure the soaking time with hot water helped.

I soak mine in a bucket of hot water and Dawn ... It seems to disolve the wax and oil residue better than just washing. I machine wash in All Free and Clear or Micro Restore with equal results. I know there is a definite benefit to presoaking.

When I have really dirty towels, I pre-soak them and it does seem to help.

Kind of like giving an APC some dwell time so it can do its chemical thing before you wipe it off.

Thanks all I had not pre-soaked my towels before....I guess in to much of a hurry...but I will from now on

Two days might be a little much. :D
My pre-soak is usually overnight in a bucket that starts out with hot water and some Dawn. Obviously, the hot water isn't going to be hot for long, but I do think it helps to start with it.

Off topic, but I've started using warm water for washing the vehicles and I think the warm water works better for that job as well.

I have only left the lid up for like 20 or 30 min and did not do much better. maybe I should try and do an hour or so and see what happens. :rockon

Charles I agree the 48 hours was over kill it was brain cells was the reason there....the soaking was something that I had not given much thought to until this...my foam pads I always soak over night in the same solution as you

I have never presoaked before...but it sounds like a good idea...I am going to try it tonight. But only for a few hours...

The one thing that popped out at me was how much cleaner they appeared...I have some WW MFT that have some stains....but in looking at them this morning that was gone completely...that's what got my attention...they also looked brighter to me...which a assume was the fact that they where stain free

While I soak my pads in the Dawn solution, I only use enough to cover the polishing portion of the pad and not the Velcro backing.
I always felt it was better for the backing, but I still have managed to remove the Velcro from a few pads.

I think this is why I am going to try it...I wash them pretty often and they have never really seemed that clean, maybe giving them the chance to soak gets everything out. I don't think I have any OXI clean, though I can get some...would something like simple green work?

Some here use APC....its the degreasing that you are trying to accomplish and the soaking seems to be the key then the agitation of the washing machine removes the rest....the APC I do believe would do the same as oxy-clean

I soak the gross ones in Amazing Roll Off/Water for a day or two prior to washing. It does help them come cleaner no two ways about it.

For the dirty ones, I presoak with Megs APC at 10:1 for about 15-20 mins, rinse than wash. Seems to work good for me.

No I haven't soaked before, but it seems to be a great idea. I'll do that, Might take the wax out much better than just washing!
The only thing that disturbs me a bit about your post is the oxyclean. I am not sure if I read it in this forum or not, but I have heared that oxiclean cleans the MFT pretty good but takes a lot of life out of them. My wife never washes the more delicate shirts and laundry with oxyclean, because they start to tear and falling apart after some time.

I have never heard that about oxyclean I thought that it was pretty harmless....would be interesting to see some facts on it

I use oxy clean on my Microfibers as well as my pads... I'd be interested to see if it is hurting them. I personally haven't found anything that would prevent me from using it, at this point in time.

Ok, my apologies. I did some quick searches on the internet and found no consistent warning. There were users who had oxiclean stain their laundry like bleach, but no real damage or shorter laundry life. However it seems like the general opinion, when oxiclean came out, went towrads that something that cleaned so good, would be too agressive for the laundry and this rumoe seems to stay around in nthe general opinion and in some forums. Sorry again - shouldn't have listened to the wife. :(
