Bought some Meg pads; question about products.

I just picked up the meg's PC 6" backing plate along with a cutting pad(burgandy), polishing pad(yellow) and finishing pad(beige). The store I went to had the whole line-up of mirror glaze products, I was very anxious to buy a whole bunch but held off because I wasnt sure what i wanted or needed. They also had all the NXT products and some 3M stuff.

Now I have a few questions.

-are meg pads more expensive than usuall. I paid about $26 CND for each pad and $32 for the backing plate. Is that about right?

-I have 3M SMR, and pretty much all the megs consumer line of products(GC paste, Deep crystal 1,2,3, scratchX, QD) also #7,#26 in pro line

I'm looking for something of the polish type in the proffesional line-up

i was thinking maybe #2, #83, or #9?

or do I already have something along those lines with the 3M SMR.

I also have Zaino and would like to use it as a final topper but have heard it is incompatible with products that use fillers and have oils in them.. Im not religious to Zaino so I can try NXT or something along those lines as a topper if someone recommends it.

one more question. with my PC i was given a PC pad #54742 Buffing pad. Isn't it more along the lines of a wool cutting pad or is it for after the finishing pad. Im confused cause it feels like wool to me?

Thanks for any and all the help guys. Im somewhat new at this proffesional side of car detailing but I;m really enjoying it.

been detailing with the consumer line-up for years and I cant believe there was a whole other side to it.:xyxthumbs

325iSBimmer - Sorry, don't know anything about the #54742 pad or about the prices you're paying. But maybe I can help a bit with some of your other Qs. Smart move, asking here before buying a bunch of stuff.

Yeah, to round out what you already have you need an abrasive polish. If you get the #83, also get either #9 or #82 to use afterwards. Or look for the #80 Speed Glaze, it works well too. I'd avoid the #2 for PC use (it's really a rotary product).

FWIW, I like 3M's PI-III line, especially the RC (05933) and the MG (05937). They don't leave fillers behind (unlike your 3M SMR) so you could go straight to your Zaino.

Like Accumulator says #83,#80 and #9 is a pretty good combo to have and should cover all your needs. It's what I like to use with my PC and can all be bought locally. It's also nice to be able to just go right over them with NXT with out the need of a dawn wash or isa/water wipe down. Then my favorite is to top the NXT with #16.

thank you soo much for steering me in the right direction with the products....

anyone else with any recomendations feel free to add.

Meg's # 83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish is a great product to begin with depending on the severity of your swirls. You might find, especially on darker colors, that you may need to follow up #82 Swirl Free Polish. #82 SFP has a little more bite than #9 Swirl Remover. These products can be used with a Dual Action Polisher. Some of the other products you mentioned, like #2, achieve better results with a rotary. You can even go as far as #84 Compound Power Cleaner with a Wool Pad for the PC for more serious paint defects. On another note, you may find that it will be easier to use the pads you purchased with a 5 inch backing plate rather than a 6. I have both and the smaller backing plate allows the pad to conform better to varying countours of your vehicle. I have a stepside and it allows the pad to "bend" more when working the flares or contours on the back fenders. Enjoy and be sure to post some pics when you can.

thank you OVERTHEEDGE......

Im going to be picking up those products (now that I have a better idea of what to buy thanx to YOU guys) tomorrow and this weekend I will be giving them a go Time allowing...So pix will definately come soon...
