Yes, the blue Bosch tools are made for the heavy duty/professional market. Greens are the consumer's.

Im extremely surprised not to find much on this quality machine in autopia. It is the top of the range bosch availiable and is a kickass forced rotation. At that price i would much rather prefer it over the makita BO6040.



It is ahead of the market, having; low weight, high power, good looks, good opm, variable speed, ambidextrous 90 degree handle, forced rotation, is very durable (industry gex series), long service life construction and most of all, turbo mode!



Not that it matters with 6.5 amps of power, forced rotation and turbo mode, but why did Bosch only give it an orbit diameter of 4.5mm?

I couldn't find that figure myself, but am wondering why the guys at bosch decided to go one better with everything else except for orbit diameter??? :think:
 
The biggest pad throws have 9mm, which guarantees quick, powerful work, but there is a distant possibility of swirl marks. A smaller orbit ensures finer finish.



My green Bosch have a very high 24000 max OPM, so the smaller (4mm) orbit doesn't matter.

Bosch hasn't been too aggressive in the automotive market in the US. I think they see their niche primarily in construction. Too bad though, they make great tools.



It's a fairly new machine too. Its predecessor, the1370DEVS, looked a lot like the PC.

At a tool show once, I asked the Bosch reps about the1370DEVS and they'd never heard of it. I had to work up to the regional manager to find someone who even knew what tool I was asking for. He finally dug one out for me to look at, really nice machine.

6" hook&loop backing plate, 5.0 Amps, 4,800-12,000 OPM. It has the forced rotation feature but you need to use a hex key to change modes, unlike the 1250DEVS, Makita and Festo that have selector knobs.



Here's a page reviewing it as a sander.



As far as I know it's a discontinued model. If you Google around you find stores that still list it, so maybe they still have stock is sitting in warehouses.

I was looking at some power tools the other day in the local hardware store, and they had a special display of the Bosch tools (green), including two differnent DA sander/polishers (Bosch seems to be the biggest foreign brand for power hand tools in Japan). They're pretty darn expensive over here, but they sure are high quality! That 1250 DEVS looks like a fine piece, too.
 
Do you think we are looking at a potential PC replacement in time, another "cult tool" like the Cyclo :D, or just a passing curiosity?
 
Random orbitals with forced rotation modes are definitely more aggressive while still being very safe and easy to use. A good step-up from a regular DA but still below rotaries for cutting power. Problem is they usually cost more than good rotaries.

I guess over there the cyclo would be better, but we don't get them over here.
