Body Shop...

I need to vent a little...

I just got back from the body shop attempting to pick up my sister's car after a minor driver side front collision. When I get there, the car was parked in the shade under a tree. It rained last night, so the car looked like crap. The paintwork didn't look great from the start and one of the panels they fixed didn't line up quite right. After I pull it into the sun, I see nothing but holograms. They also didn't line up the wheel well cover right, but I popped it into place. Kinda annoyed at the attention to detail, but whatever. When I bring up the holograms, they say they can't fix them because they can't wax the car yet. I call bs and pretty much say polish it out and learn how to use a rotary. They also had to replace the condenser, and after turning on the ac, it sounded like crap. They are kinda clueless on that.

I have had good experiences from the shop before, 3x on my cars including a $175 hit and run scratch repaint, and maybe they just had a new guy. The manager, not the wax guy, was helpful and says he will take care of it and give us another call when it is ready. They did give her a free loaner from the start, which she still has, so it is not that bad, just annoying. Hopefully they fix it right before they call us back.

I hear ya, :hairpull we did too on our 07 jetta, our body shop did a great job on our car's paint which was silver base coat clear coat with a lot of flake, matched perfect only one small problem: on the hood where they just sanded, they didn't fill in a rock chip and painted over it, so you can't tell the car was wrecked by the body work, but because some painter made a snap decision not to fill in the chip, anyone can tell our car was wrecked and the chip painted over!! How much extra effort would filling in one rock chip have cost that shop? An extra half hour, come on, no such thing has professional quality work any more these days, and this shop is considered the best in out town too

If you start doing things for free, where do you draw the line. Shops don't make money by giving things away. An extra 30 minutes in a body shop is $40 and if you give that time away for free, it just cost the shop $80. $80 for 1 paint chip...forget it!

And guess what: I would have paid $50, 100, 150, or $200 extra if they had just taken the time to ask me before proceeding! BS! :angry Than have a brand new car with a chip painted over, very professional looking. :down
